Almost symmetrical, on a clear day it almost begs to be climbed. The easiest way is a diversion to the top from the Tongariro Crossing walk. Very picturesque with a capping of snow.

Easy walk or ride with surreal views, plenty of wild berries to keep you refreshed, sound of the river keeps you buzzing and the swing bridges add a bit of adrinaline rush. Watching people do Trout fishing while enjoying an ice cream we bought from the Cafe certainly made the whole experience more relaxing. We also did bit of a detour at the end of the Red Hut Bridge around the fisheries track. Although water was a bit rough to cross the river to make it a loop and we had to turn back, this section was more exciting as it had climbs and drops with a beautiful tree canopy and moss with a bonus of fantails to entertain us.

Tongariro Alpine Crossing

If you are planning to do the 'Crossing' make sure you take plenty of water as although there are toilets and water available on the hike, none of the water is suitable for drinking! You also need layers of clothing, ensuring you have thermals as it will be very cold in some areas, particularly at the top! Good hiking shoes are essential. The very fit can complete the Crossing in as little as 3.5 hours. But for most people it takes between 6 - 8 hours.
