Bear spray! And layers...
You're in the wilderness out here, so one or two bear sprays will be cheap insurance for you during walks and should provide peace of mind. Because you'll be in the mountains, it's all about layers, thin to thick, plus a sun hat, good tread hiking shoes, synthetic socks, goose down jacket (they're so easy to scrunch into a small space). Leave water bottles behind because Montana doesn't recycle adequately, and the drinking water is superb.
