Food scene
Chef Christian Gritti comes from Bergamo, Italy and attended one of Italy’s most long standing culinary schools in San Pellegrino, Italy. In 2015 he took his talents to Rosarito and opened Pasta y Basta, an amazing authentic Italian restaurant. This is by far the best Italian food I’ve had in Mexico and rivals any place I’ve been to in the US.

This is by far the best Italian food I’ve had in Mexico and rivals any place I’ve been to in the US.
One of our favorite restaurants for steak, rack of lamb, home made soups and a wonderful atmosphere. Tapanco get’s its amazing authentic flavor by cooking over an open mesquite flame. They make one of the best salsa’s I’ve had right in front of you (using a stone grinder). Many of the entrees come with soup and salad and the restaurant is frequented by mariachis.

A worthwhile destination, once you find it. Next to Tapanco, proceed down a long driveway, park and then walk towards to the sound of the ocean. You’ll pass a yoga studio and then you’ll see En Elmar, a restaurant boasting spectacular ocean views along with a comfortable dinning environment. Breakfast was really good and the staff was nice and accommodating. Enelmar is now a must stop for us.

Ajenjo Latitude 52 54

They don’t serve Mexican food, instead they serve a unique fusion of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. I recommend the fish, but everything looked gourmet and delicious.
Things to do
El Cielo makes fantastic California style wines from Pinot Noir to Cab, they also make a refreshing chardonnay. This winery has only been making wine for around 5 years but they have all the equipment of a major Napa Valley winery. We recommend the wine tasting which comes with a tour of the barrel rooms, and a complimentary wine glass. It’s around $20 per person but well worth it. From MonteFiori make a left, its about a block or so away

About an hour and 15 minutes south of Rosarito is Ensenada, a nice place to go for the day. We love the shops and prefer them to Rosarito for jewelry. Most of what you will want to do is right by the pier so try and find parking near there. We find the weather is generally sunnier in Ensenada, as it doesn’t seem to get as thick of a marine layer. Events and festivals are often held on the pier and those can be worth while, offering free music, food and souvenirs.

Looking for great original oil paintings at an affordable price? Puerto Nuevo is known as the place for lobster, however I always thought of it as a tourist trap with prices comparable to the US. But this art gallery is fantastic, with original work from incredible Mexican artists such as Jorge Paieto B. He has a way of capturing waves I’ve never seen before. Below are a couple of Jorge’s paintings that we purchased. They will also create an original work from photograph.
