Authentic culture

Christiania is absolutely amazing, and it is definitely one the best places if not the best in all of Copenhagen, this is definitely a must see! Christiania is a really cool free town with an amazing authentic vibe. Christiania is home to a lot of small shops, a couple museums, cool architecture and nice nature. Christiania also has some interesting history that is definitely worth learning a bit about. Christiania works a bit different than the rest of Denmark, it has its own democratic structure, based on consensus democracy, and it is not possible to buy or sell property here. If you visit Christiania you should go on a long walk, there is some really nice nature and a lot of cool architecture a little bit away from the center which is definitely worth a visit. Below is a list of 3 cool things to see in the center of Christiania: Christiania is truly one of Copenhagen's best gems. Christiania is a sanctuary, with a free life, an incredible history, beautiful nature and crazy cool architecture.

This is the street where most people from Copenhagen get their weed. It is a cool street to see, just don’t take any electronic devices out on this street, taking photos is strictly prohibited, and taking electronic devices out indicates that you are doing this. (You can have electronic devices out and take pictures everywhere else)

Peder Skram was a Peder Skram-class frigate in the Royal Danish Navy which was in use until 1990. The ship is named after Peder Skram, a 16th-century Danish admiral. In 1982 Peder Skram was involved in the accidental launch of a Harpoon missile, which inflicted no bodily harm. Peder Skram is today operated as a museum ship on a volunteer basis. It is open to visitors every day from 11am to 5pm in the school summer and autumn vacations and in all weekends in June and August.

Historical sights

Vor frue Kirke This is a church with a grand golden spear. It is super cool and full of history and often open to visitors. It is possible to go all the way to the top of the spear, where you will have an amazing view of all of Copenhagen! There are alot of steep stairs that are somewhat hard to climb though.

Christiansborg slot is a palace and government building. It is the seat of the Danish Parliament (Folketinget), the Danish Prime Minister's Office, and the Supreme Court of Denmark. I think you can get tours of the place which should be pretty cool. There are some really old ruins from the 12th century that I think you can see.

The royal stables. This is where the queen has her horses. I used to come here all the time as a child to look at the horses and old carriages. I don’t know if they are still open to visitors but if they are I can definitely recommend this! This could also be fun for kids to see.

Rosenborg Castle is a renaissance castle. The castle was originally built as a country summerhouse in 1606 and is an example of Christian IV's many architectural projects. Sometimes you can go into the castle, which is now a museum, and it looks like it did when Christian IV lived there

Rundetårn is a round tower built by Christian IV. It is very tall and you can go to the top of the tower where you get an amazing view of all of Copenhagen. It has no stairs, instead it has a “snail passage” that can fit a horse carriage, so that Christian IV didn’t have to walk to the top.

The freedom museum. This is a pretty new museum and I haven’t been here myself yet, but I know a lot of people that have and they all say that it is a really great museum. The museum is about the Danish freedom fighters from WWII, the occupation and the resistance struggle in Denmark in the years 1940-1945.

A museum of Danish design. I personally don’t have the biggest interest in design, but this museum is really cool, and fun to visit, and I would definitely recommend it, also to people who don't care too much for design.

If you want to sail through the canals, you can rent a nice little boat here, you don't need to know how to sail a boat to do this. I have done this and can definitely recommend it! I also think this could be a fun activity for kids.

Tivoli is by far denmark's best amusement park! I came here many times as a kid, and it is such a fun experience. Tivoli was founded by Georg Carstensen in 1843, making it the world’s second oldest amusement park. The last couple years a lot of new rides have been built making it a little less pretty than it used to be, but nonetheless it is still a very pretty park. It is quite expensive, but it is a super fun place to go, I still love going there! On Friday nights they play live music. During this time there are not a lot of people on the rides, so there are almost no lines. If you wish to go somewhere less expensive try “Bakken (Dyrehavevej 62, 2930 Klampenborg)” it is a little further away.
