Captain John Smith’s expedition reached the peninsula in 1608 while mapping the Chesapeake Bay. A historic lighthouse is at the end of one of the trails that leads to the head of the Chesapeake Bay. The park was used as a filming location for the 1997 Clint Eastwood movie Absolute Power.
