Food Scene

I LOVE food, I hate ordering and being disappointed so, to save you from eating bad food I have listed, in my opinion, some of the best food joints across Famagusta. I have also added meal recommendations for vegetarians & vegans as they can be hard to find.
A great place to eat in or order from with a wide variety of meals and a selection of decent vegetarian options. I recommend that you try the 'Kibris Cips' (Cyprus potatoes) and the 'Cookie with ice-cream for two', they're both amazing!

This is the BEST cake shop in town, I can say this with certainty. They have a variety of English & Turkish cakes and they are all made freshly with love so they taste extra special.

This is the best place to get Turkish delights and any other Turkish sweets you can think of, great as gifts. You can also eat here with a nice view upstairs, many colorful birds and turtles in the downstairs section.

We absolutely love this place. it has a rooftop restaurant and bar with the most divine cocktails and food. Furthermore, it has arguably one of the best 360 views of Famagusta, we recommend going just before sunset to make the most of the vibes.

Sightseeing

Varosha/Maras; the town that was closed since 1974. This city is literally frozen in time making it the most interesting sight to see for history lovers. Be aware that the city only operates with a card you CANNOT spend CASH. Go prepared with water it is a huge place with a lot to see including the Derinya beach. You can either rent bikes, walk or take a bus to the beach and all over the city. If you choose to go to the beach i advise taking the bus or walking.if you choose to rent a bike hire it for longer than 2 hours (which is the minimum) because the beah is gorgeous and not worth rushing.

A 5-minute drive will take you to Mardo Kaleici (inside the castle) which has one of the best historic views and the best ice cream in town. The views from the rooftop are Instagram-worthy and make it worth the walk or drive you will take to get here and as you are walking up the 3 floors of stairs to the roof there is a collection of images on each floor of the Famagusta port being constructed and other historical gems.

Dipkarpaz is the most North point of the island,so you definitely need a car for this one! However i can guarantee that you will not regret visiting. Whilst being a nature reserve it is also a protected donkey park, take carrots and apples with you to feed them on your way, they will gladly eat from your hand! Another amazing sight in Dipkarpaz is the Golden Beach, the largest sandy beach (and it is completely empty making it an amazing spot for camping or spendingthe day tanning) If you do visit please stop by 'Sea Birds' restaurant and say hi to Huseyin, he has amazing views and even better food 🤤

Beach

Great for swimming and snorkeling (has a reef) this beach also has two restaurants making it a perfect day out spot. There are water sports such as windsurfing and there is even dolphin pedal boats that you can enjoy for an hourly fee. The beach is situated right next to maras/varosha which has been recently reopened after being closed since 1974. Ps. If you go to the far right of the beach you will find a spot that is so deep so close to the shore you can run and jump into the ocean as if it were a pool! (near the volleyball net)

The golden sand and shallowness of the water here make it a popular spot for families. You are guaranteed a space at this beach as it is one of the longest beaches here, it also has a restaurant where you will be able to eat and drink all day long and do water sports.

Thursday Market

Take a taxi and ask for the Thursday market or drive to the 'old lemar', you will find the market right next to this. The market has everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to house plants, spices, nuts, village-made hellim, turkish sweets and even clothes. Its one of the best places to find fresh produce and traditional tastes.
