The Reno area has several hiking trails that take both beginner and experienced hikers into the hills around the city. The Hunter Creek trail is one of the more popular hikes, but there's a good reason: there's a waterfall at the end. A waterfall in the high desert is hard to come by, but this one runs all year and is a nice end to this 5.2 round trip hike in the Sierra foothills. This trail offers views of the Downtown Reno skyline as well views of Hunter Creek, cottonwood and pine trees, colorful rocks and flowers in the summer.

At various locations along the river you will come upon several pieces of Burning Man art given to the city. There are also places to stop and watch the water and the various birds that like to nest here. Walk around and visit the local bars, restaurants and coffee shops including Cafe Capello coffee and Sierra Tap House. The central point of the area is Wingfield Park, a park on an island in the middle of the river. There are an amphitheater and access to the river as well as a few swimming holes.

The event has won multiple awards under the special events category and it continues to gain popularity among spectators of all ages. The event occurs in early September over three or four days, so plan accordingly! When you’re there, grab lawn chairs and lean back and relax! The event starts at 6.45 in the morning on the first day, and you’ll be able to watch the balloons in bright, beautiful colors sail overhead. They will keep going until the third day when the first winning balloons will land as the sun goes down.

This 2 mile scenic loop is an easy hike and the view from the top of the Rattlesnake mountain is beautiful. You get to watch the city view and the airport right in front with airplanes landing and flying by pretty close. Careful while going up the hill as it’s steep and full of rocks. I’d recommend wearing proper shoes and outfit as it’s windy. Overall, very refreshing hike.

This 2 mile scenic loop is an easy hike and the view from the top of the Rattlesnake mountain is beautiful. Squaw Valley was the host of the 1960 Winter Olympics, which still has its village right there for you to stay in. The resort invites veteran and beginner skiers to come and try out the slopes, and during the summer, there are also miles of hiking trails to explore.
