Wanderlust “to do” list

Trails, Hikes, Bikes, Lakes, and Nature

Here are a few local places of interest that we think you might enjoy.
You are already at your little slice of paradise why would you want to leave? There’s so much to do at your Airbnb! Trails have been cut with love for you to explore the wildflowers and the property. We have amazing flowers blooming from the middle of March to early fall. Be sure to check out the Dragon trail and see how many dragons you can find. Along the trails you will come to the butterfly nursery where we have been attracting Monarch as well as other species of butterflies for the last few years. Mike Has planted multiple varieties of milk weeds and other plants to feed the various stages of butterfly and has countless variety of butterfly bushes and plantings to attract them to their nursery.Around the 10 acres there are approximately 75 fruit trees and counting. Behind the pool there are some large green tubes and several other oddities including a sandbox and for children to enjoy. In the garage you’ll find a ping-pong table as well as lots of yard games including badminton, volleyball, and many other yard games. There is a great Koi pond where if you ask Mike, the man in the straw hat, he may help you find some fish food. There is an enormous fire pit and plenty of firewood. Susan has the makings of s’mores up at the house waiting for you if she’s on her “A” game, along with a couple of guitars, a banjo, and a mandolin if there are any pickers in your crowd. If you’re coming in the winter and you’ve heard it’s been cold for a while, if the Ice is 4 inches thick in either of the two fishing ponds (not the Koi pond) You should bring your ice skates. Feel free to bring a fishing pole if you’d like to fish in the pond down by the outbuilding. Again, not the Koi pond, those fish are expensive!! They are also under the protection of mermaids. There are of course two other water related activities, the 25 x 50’ inground pool, typically open April 15 through October 15 heated by a heat pump. Which means, it must be above 50° during the day for a significant number of hours in order for the heat pump to kick on, and if it’s early in the season, you must cooperate and keep it covered after you’re done swimming by rolling on the solar blanket or you won’t have the heat in the pool the next day. There are tons of pool toys and floaty ‘s, life vests for children, And even a large collection of extra bathing suits and heavy robes should you forget yours. We strive to have the pool open by mid April and we typically close it Mid October. Our ideal temperature is between 80 and 87°. There is also an enclosed hot tub that typically stays a balmy 104°. So again I have to ask with so much to do at your “Staycation Destination” why take a side trip!. .

The southern side of Columbia along with the trails that run along the Missouri River offer some of the most amazing Karst Topography/cave systems. The caves are the home to the endangered brown bat colonies that fly between the Rock Bridge Park caves often referred to as devils icebox and the caves near Boonville along the Missouri River. There are fantastic walking trails for several levels of hikers. During good weather there are guided tours through some of the Crevasses and caves

This is located only about 10 to 12 minutes from the house. It’s a fantastic fishing lake with a huge amount of shoreline. It is under used and picturesque. Owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation It has unspoiled shoreline where there are no homes or commercial activities allowed on the lake.

There are much better sites to learn about all the trail routes along the Missouri Kansas Texas and Katy Trail connectors, So please continue to explore the Internet. If you are an avid biker you can ride your bikes all the way to St. Louis along the wind Strasse and stop off at many good wineries along the way, you can ride along the Missouri River and go to a little town called Rocheport Which has excellent eateries and shopping and offers a step into the past.

This will take you about an hour and 15 minutes but if you’re here for an extended trip and are looking for a chance to get away there is a lot to do at the lake. Excellent fishing and boating, some very great parks and picnic areas and more.
