This 295 acre recreation area offers beautiful views and trails in Wisconsin's unglaciated "coulee" region. The day use area has restrooms, playground equipment, and shelter available for rent. The approximately 3 mile trail winds through the hollow. Allow plenty of time if attempting this hike as the trail has many switchbacks and hilly topography. The trail is open to hiking and horseback riding. There is a small open shelter midway through the trail available for camping. The property is bordered on the north side by the undeveloped State Natural Area. The orchard near the lower parking area is open to the public for picking in season.

This popular river for kayaking is challenging in some spots and a bit more leisurely in others. At times, the Baraboo River is slow with areas of shallow rapids, but high water levels can cause a swift current and should not be paddled by anyone other than experienced paddlers. It is important to be alert to changing conditions and aware that the current can be quite strong. Some sections are Class I rapids in the Baraboo city limits area.

Fawn Creek is a relaxing winery nestled in the forests of Dell Prairie. But on weekends our quiet neck-of-the-woods is transformed into the best music venue in Southwest Wisconsin! In addition to offering traditional semi-dry table reds and semi-sweet to sweet table whites, we have found a niche in fruit-flavored grape wines of a sweeter nature such as Granny's Gold, a Granny Smith-apple-flavored Riesling, and Razz Prairie, a raspberry-flavored Pinot Noir.

Quiet neighborhood, limited space/utilities & hot stove

We are delighted to host your child(ren) at Old Orchard Cabin and we want it to be a wonderful experience. Here are a few housekeeping items to be aware of: * While staying we expect all guests (to include children) to respect quiet hours, our property, and the community. Age will not excuse disruptive or destructive behavior. * The cabin is 430 sq. feet, does not have separate rooms, and there is no running water. * The wood pellet stove becomes very hot while operating and is unprotected. Please take extreme caution with your child(ren) if you will use the stove!

COVID safety

In rural Wisconsin you can expect to encounter others who are not wearing a mask or keeping 6' or more distance between each other. Many stores, shops, gas stations and restaurants also do not enforce wearing of masks and social distancing. If you have concerns with this, we suggest bringing your own food and shopping or filling up with gas while near Madison (in Dane County).
