No trip to Suites Flamingo will be complete without lunch at Candoras right across the street. Famous with the locals for their food, but remember it's only open for breakfast and lunch, closing at 1:00 pm ish Our recommendation is the Birria. You can get a large order and share it. It is a pulled pork that is stewed for hours in a clay pot in it's delicious juices, served with fresh handmade tortillas, comes with small amounts of guacamole, onions, and beans as well as some pretty delicious hot sauces! Provecho! as we say in Mexico

Walking south on the main road towards the downtown centro, you will cross a little bridge just after the Peninsula mall (which also has a Starbucks) and then you will see La Isla. It's an outdoor mall and we love to walk there from the condo and have a starbucks coffee in the morning and sit in the picturesque surroundings. And don't forget to check out there VIP theatre one evening for the cost not much more than a regular theatre!

City/town information

This little surfing town has a great vibe and beach not too far away. In front of the Walmart, take a bus labelled ATM, yes, like the bank machine, lol. These buses go to Bucerias, Punta de Mita and Sayulita, all cute little towns with great beaches and restaurants on the beach and tours you can do to go snorkeling or horseback riding on the beach. Go to the surfing town of Sayulita if you can spend all day or Bucerias for a quicker trip.

Neighbourhoods

Taco stands galore! If you are of the brave of heart and you want a taste of the real Mexico, this is the place for you. You will see local people eating real Mexican tacos! Carne asada is steak meat, con queso, with cheese and you can have your choice of all the fixings and sauces that go with it! Or how about carnitas? That's some yummy pulled pork. This neighborhood comes to life 7:30 ish every night. Across the street on the other side is the Aurora Market. Here you can get fresh local fruit, vegies, fish, shrimp or prawns, cheese, tortillas, beans, as well as our personal favorite, seafood burritos with smoked marlin, shrimp or pulpo which is octopus. Their special sauces to dip them in are to die for! Just remember the market is only open to around 1:30 To enjoy the Aurora neighborhood, it's a 2-block walk down Priciliano Sanchez (with is the road that runs down the side of Sam's Club (Walmart) across from where the cruise ships dock.

Entertainment

If there is a show playing you want to see, definitely check it out at the VIP theatre at La Isla - a beautiful outdoor mall, that in itself is worth a walk-around, complete with water canals and gondola drivers!

Coffee

Cafe es todo has become a very trendy little local coffee shop with an owner from Dominican Republic who roasts her own coffee on the same block. You will smell when you are near and most locals will know where to direct you when you get near to the La Aurora neighborhood. (Just walk down the street to the right of Sam's Club 2 blocks and turn right, 1 block then left and walk a block) It is an easy 15 minute morning walk from Suites Flamingo - which feels like nothing on a cool but sunny Vallarta morning! Also check out La Isla for lovely surroundings and a Starbucks coffee or the Peninsula Starbucks if you want a walk to a coffee a little closer to home
