Cavvanbah —— The Meeting Place Byron Bay's original inhabitants are the Arakwal people, who are part of the Bundjalung group. The Arakwal called this area 'Cavvanbah', which means the meeting place, was the name of the settlement until 1894 when it became Byron Bay. Located on the far-north coast of NSW, home to Australia's most easterly point and the iconic Cape Byron lighthouse, the region is known for its unique, green & organic vibe, spectacular beaches, top notch shopping / dining experiences, world-class cultural / music festivals and vibrant community spirit. Beyond the township of Byron Bay, the region includes many seaside villages, quaint hinterland towns, and large regional centres, all with their own unique character.

Brunswick Heads on the North Coast of NSW is the epitome of the sun-drenched fishing and surfing village lost in time. It’s little wonder the town is the idyllic setting for popular Aussie TV series Sea Change. Look out for kids jumping into the river that dissects the town and surfers offshore chasing legendary waves.

Guide to Byron’s Beaches

Main Beach is the closest beach to Byron’s town centre, for this reason, it’s also busiest. The beach runs from the seawall at Belongil Beach down to Clarkes Beach and is located directly in front of Byron Bay’s iconic Beach Hotel. Details: + Family friendly as it is patrolled. + Dog-friendly from a point adjacent to Manfred Street, Belongil, extending in an easterly direction to a point on the western side of Main Beach car park. + Close to shops, cafes and restaurants. + Has a grassy area for picnics as well as a park. + Has plenty of parking available.
