The Arakwal called this area 'Cavvanbah', which means the meeting place, was the name of the settlement until 1894 when it became Byron Bay. Main Beach is the closest beach to Byron’s town centre, for this reason, it’s also busiest. The beach runs from the seawall at Belongil Beach down to Clarkes Beach and is located directly in front of Byron Bay’s iconic Beach Hotel.

+ Dog-friendly from a point adjacent to Manfred Street, Belongil, extending in an easterly direction to a point on the western side of Main Beach car park.

Farmers Market is on every Thurs morning at the Cavenbah sports ground. Byron Market, the biggest in the area, is on every first Sunday of the month. Also, there’s Artisan Market on every Sat afternoon at Jonson Street.
