Parks, Arts, and Places

Only a half-mile from our place, this is one of our favorite places to walk to from our front door. Take the paved bike path that begins on Marshall right by the train tracks. As you walk along the river you'll find a park with a playground and picnic area, a basketball court, a sculpture, and open grass fields. It's situated right next to the old Grainbelt Brewery buildings that have been converted to artist lofts, a coffee shop, a restaurant/bar, and more. To get here on foot from our house, follow the railroad tracks toward the river for about two blocks. After crossing Marshall St. there will be a paved trail/bike path; follow this along the river. Soon you'll see the large, round sculpture of shields. Enjoy the park and/or continue down the paved trail/bike path towards Boom Island Park, only another half-mile away.
