It's unassuming; right on the beach; small and has great food at good prices. A few minutes walk, a bottle of wine and a walk back.

This is definitely the best fish and chip shop in Coolangatta/Tweed. Right on the river. Fresh, fresh, fresh and so popular. They also sell fish for you to cook at home. Grab a meal, cross the road and watch the pelicans on the river.

Arts & Culture

It is set in one of the most beautifully iconic northern NSW landscapes you could ever hope to see and features a replica of the famous Australian artist Margaret Olley's home studio. She was born in this small town. Has a great cafe too. 30-minute drive through the cane fields.

Parks & Nature

It's the first place the sun kisses in Australia every day. It's also very beautiful and provides a great 5-hour round hike to the top and back. There's a great fruit and vege roadstall at the turnoff. It's a 45-minute drive away and worth the effort.

It features Australian wildlife from the kangaroo to the koala, to the dingo and Tassie Devil. Ever morning and afternoon thousands of lorikeets drop in for a snack of milk and honey. It's the best one-stop Australian wildlife shop imaginable and a great place for grandparents and kids alike. There's a high ropes course for those who like a challenge and a kiddie train for the more gentle at heart. It's a 5-minute drive away.

The Tweed River is great for kayaking and you can hire houseboats here. There are sheltered sandy beaches for gentle days and it's good to cast fishing line, too.

Shopping

For those who like shopping, it's the place to visit on the Gold Coast. Had enough? Jump the light rail to Southport - it's a pretty good sightseeing journey or pop across to Jupiters Casino for lunch. I can definitely vouch for the restaurants there, they are great! And the beach is only a few minutes walk wherever you go.

Essentials

We love Aldi but if you prefer a bigger choice, there's a Woolworths on the next level up in the Showcase at the Beach shopping centre. It's a few minutes walk.
