Great outdoor play area, indoor amusement centre for rainy days, dinosaur themed trail, Planet Earth museum, miniture railway with a ride around the Heritage Gardens for small children (I used to have my children’s birthday parties there, where we used to organise treasure hunts aroundo the vast trail, play on the outdoor area and have a picnic. Even steel drums for the children to play on. Garden centre and gift shop for adults, also selling pets needs, decent cafe, always good food. A unique and throughly enjoyable personal favourite of mine.

A great family day out, hundreds of animals, soft play, water play, mazes and outdoor play for all ages. Activities and events, all year round, eg Halloween Shriek Week. A favourite when my children were younger, we had season passes as a day does not seem long enough to fit it all in.

Walking and Sightsseing

A relatively new nature reserve. Great for walking, cycling and scooting along a path between Newhaven and leading onto Seaford, a few yards from the beach. Along the well defined paths you will find natural marshland and wet grassland, coastal scrub and woodland. Situated between Newhaven and Seaford it backs onto an area of beach called Tidemills. The reserve itself has a circular walk as well as many paths leading to and from the reserve area in the direction of Seaford and Newhaven. To get to the reserve follow the A259 from Newhaven to Seaford, there is a turning on the right at grid ref.TQ464005. This leads to a purpose built car park, from which there are paths leading into the reserve and up across the railway line towards the beach. There is also an information board that shows you the whole reserve and the routes around and through it.

Saltdean Lido is an Art Deco Lido designed by architect R.W.H. Jones. It is listed Grade II by English Heritage. Saltdean Lido is a heated outdoor swimming pool, which is open throughout the summer. I used to take my children here when they were toddlers and the Sea and i found it hard to manage 3 little ones at the beach. It also has a gym and serves food. It is situated opposite Saltdean Beach which hosts a charming clifftop cafe. It is also next to Oval Park with play area on the same site, and rec ground for football, rounders or a picnic. It is a great place for a family day out. There is also a carvery next to the Lido.
