It’s a science museum with interactive displays, a planetarium and so much more. During the day it can be quite busy, and it’s best to plan a few days advance for cheaper ticket prices. If you are 21+ they offer a wonderful experience on Thursday nights called “Nightlife at the Academy”. It’s adults only and they have DJs and drinks available as you explore the place.

If you’re interested in California history, or just want to lounge somewhere on a nice day. The park is big, and not too far away. The actual Basilica for which the park was named, was built in 1776 and still exists.

Shoes & Clothing

Bring a comfy pair of shoes if you plan on walking around the city. There are a lot of hills but the views are worth the effort. Also, layers of clothing. The microclimates of SF are legendary; the Mission is a valley in this small 7x7 city. It’s typically always warmer in our neighborhood than in others.

Transportation

The city has improved its transportation- somewhat. Bart is one of the fastest ways to get downtown. Muni is an easy way to get to the beach. Lyft and Uber rides are everywhere and those companies have ramped up with ebikes and scooters that can be rented for blocks of time.
