My FAVORITE restaurant in Leelanau county. It's cozy, the food is consistently delicious, and it's only 2 miles from Red Gate Farm. Reservations required, so book early to guarantee your chance to eat here. This is my go-to restaurant when I host visitors.

French food, close to Red Gate Farm, cozy and yummy. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant, though they do have a patio out back if you just want wine or dessert. Book early to make sure you get in to sample Chef Guillaume's wonderful cooking!

Incredible food with a view of Lake Michigan. Chef Randy is a genius in the kitchen and we've loved every meal we've had at Blu. This is a busy, special occasion restaurant so reservations required. Don't miss your chance to dine at Blu if you can, it is an experience!!

Such a great beach town, right on the bay. There's an art fair the first weekend in August that I never miss. They also have an event called Wine on the Water that is fun to attend. Murdick's fudge, ice cream, restaurants, shopping - a must see little town about 30 minutes from Red Gate Farm. Farmers market on Saturdays.

Such a great beach town, right on the bay. There's an art fair the first weekend in August that I never miss. They also have an event called Wine on the Water that is fun to attend. Leland has the famous Fishtown that has shops and restaurants right on the water in the harbor of Leland. You can take a sunset cruise, go to the Manitou Islands, or rent a charter fishing boat from Leland. There are also cute shops, restaurants and ice cream shops in Leland. Leland is about 20 minutes from Red Gate Farm along the famous M22.

A must see if you're in the area. You can go to the first "top" for an incredible view of the surrounding area, or spend hours hiking up and down dunes until you get to Lake Michigan. If you opt for the long hike, bring lots of water and only do so if you are able to handle difficult hiking. It's hot, sandy and lots of up and down dunes to navigate, but a great hike for those who are in shape enough to go to Lake Michigan. (I'm not anymore, LOL)

Awesome ice cream in nearby Cedar, about 5 miles away. This is where many locals go. There are several different Michigan dairies featured here, and you can get food too. (hot dogs, chips, pulled pork, etc.) There is a great selection of flavors, sundaes, hard and soft ice cream, and the owner is great!! Go see Brett in Cedar and see where the locals go for ice cream.

This beach and the parking lot are exactly 6 miles north from the studio apartment at Red Gate Farm. You can park and go to the beach here, OR you can turn left on Lake Michigan Road, right before the parking lot, and drive down the dirt road looking to your right for parking and trails that take you to the beach. The main parking lot has trash cans, an outhouse, and water fountain with foot rinse. Bonfires are allowed on this beach. Please take any and all trash you create with you and be a good citizen when visiting the beaches.
