Darwin Markets

Darwin has markets all year round! Such a great choice of multicultural food. Parap Markets is every Saturday in the Parap. Nightcliff and Rapid Creek Markets on Sunday Mindil Market runs from April - October (google the dates).
Do as the locals do and have a laksa from Mary’s for breakfast!Seafood, chicken or chicken & wonton soup. It’s opposite the coffee trailer. BBQ pork and BBQ/salad also a local favourite – a stall in the middle of the food area, Vietnamese. Ken's crepes is also a great option. Oh Poa Pia are a great entree! Found at a couple of stands and say YES when they ask if you want them with sauce!

Mostly a fruit & vegetable market – I still don’t know what most of the vegetables are! So interesting finding out what they are and how to cook with them. Mostly Asian fruit and veg - you walk down a skinny long corridor full of stalls – good for a look if you’re into food and cooking. Some hot food stalls (laksa etc) here also Just down the road in Rapid Creek on Trower Rd.

A must for any tourist visiting Darwin. I don't even know where to begin with recommending food - it is all good! Lots of variety and cultures to choose from. There are plenty of souvenirs to purchase. We go earlier (5:30) to beat the crowds and pick a spot either on the grassy sand dune or on the beach (if you want to watch the sunset). Half of your group should save your spot while the other goes and buys a range of food, then you can swap! Sunset is around 6:30 but definitely check the time the sun is setting that day. There is live music, a leather whip show by Mick's Whips and other entertainment dotted throughout the markets.

Up for an experience…? Amye is from East Timor and cooks her famous charcoal chicken (her mother's recipe). She has a shack on the Stuart Hwy and fronts a car mechanic. Feel like you are in the backstreets of Asia. She’s a character – marinates the chicken for 3 days. It’s awesome. $22.5 a chook (worth it). You probably only need 1 between 2, or if you buy 2 you can take left overs home. She is open in the dry season. Check facebook for opening updates or do a drive buy. Her laksa are also great. You can sit in or take away. BYO alcohol. https://www.facebook.com/LaksaHouseWarungIbuAmye/ 54 Stuart Hwy, Stuart Park

Darwin Waterfront

Darwin Waterfront is located near Stokes Hill Wharf. It is a more recent development in Darwin that includes restaurants, short stay accommodation, apartments, Vibe hotel, the lagoon and a wave pool. Walk along a long strip of restaurants to see the choice on offer. Our favourite is Chow (Vietnamese). I would recommend ordering a variety of plates to share. The Oyster Bar is great for a drink and oysters, they often have live music playing on the weekends. There’s also Hot Tamale, a Mexican restaurant with a huge selection of tequilas! Wharf One is a lovely a la carte restaurants at the end of the strip. There is an Irish Pub called Fiddlers nearby Chow. http://www.waterfront.nt.gov.au/ You can drive/walk past the waterfront area to Stokes Hill Wharf. Get for a look if there is a good storm in the distance.
