Days out to villages/towns

Trips we recommend for interesting/picturesque towns and villages
Stunning town and coast-line with high-end maritime-themed shops, restaurants and pubs. Park in the park -and-ride or one of the car parks in town and hire a boat for the day, do some shopping or take one of the small passenger ferries to explore some beautiful beaches. We recommend walking up to the Ferry Inn and getting the ferry across to a beautiful selection of sandy beaches. If you're feeling adventurous you could walk up to the Gara Rock Hotel for a fabulous lunch, or ask them to pick you up in their landrover.

Visit Plymouth's historic Barbican to visit the Mayflower Steps, climb up the lighthouse on plymouth hoe or take a passenger ferry over to Cawsand Beach/village in Cornwall (30 minute journey on a small boat, very fun!). There's also a children's playground, adventure golf and trampolines if you walk to the far end of the Hoe. Also an outdoor sea-water swimming pool called Tinside Lido.

Totnes is a lovely little town with an interesting and unusual market on Fridays and Saturdays. It is known for it's alternative edge and this is reflected in the range of independent shops selling everything from crystals to beautiful wooden toys. There is a great range of cafes and restaurants including a selection of vegetarian/vegan venues.

Dartmoor

We are often asked where to go on Dartmoor. Here is a small selection of recommendations.
The Avon Dam Reservoir is very close to Littlefield. Parking is at Shipley Bridge, approximately 10 minutes away from the house. There are several driving routes to get there but roads are narrow and twisty so take care driving and be prepared to pull to one side to let vehicles through. Parking is free and there are toilets at the car park. The walk to the Dam is straight forward as the path is paved and with a slight incline on the way to the dam. Perfect for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The walk takes you up the River Avon which is stunning.

An interesting village in the middle of Dartmoor with some tea shops. Local pub The Rugglestone Inn has a great garden with a stream for children to play in and some chickens. The food is decent.
