Fantastic seafood (and meat dishes if you prefer) right on the edge of the rocks in Kalk Bay Harbour. You cannot get closer to the sea than this. The fishing boats come in about lunchtime and it's on your plate soon after!

Parks & Nature

There is a small entry fee into this fabulous mountainous park (on the way south half way from Cape Town to Cape Point). Great circular walking trails where it's hard to get lost and a refreshing mountain damn where you can swim and have picnics. There's a boardwalk around the edge. It's where locals go to hike, swim, sunbathe, have family gatherings and walk dogs.

Every summer Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens hold Sunday afternoon open-air concerts. Music ranges from classical to rock and everything in between. These are very well attended by locals because of big name performers, so try and get tickets in advance (but not always necessary). Take your own picnic and blanket and laze around on the lawn or dance in front of the stage an along the pathways.

Franschhoek is the prettiest and most charming village in the Cape Winelands in a scenic valley surrounded by vineyards and mountains. It has a single main street crammed with little shops, boutiques, craft and arts and LOTS of restaurants; a couple of which are always voted in the Top Ten in South Africa. It's easy to spend a whole day or two here indulging in food, wine, local cheeses and chocolates, visiting wine estates and buying gifts.

Stellenbosch is famous for 300 wine estates, historic architecture in this old university town, with lots to do and see. The area hosts more restaurants voted in the Top Ten of South Africa (at wine estates) than any other place in SA. Treat yourself and book ahead for these (look on the South African Eat Out Guide website or ask us). With a weak Rand you'll laugh at the prices for our very best haute cuisine!

Simon's Town has an Historic Mile of mainly Victorian architecture leading along the main street of this very quaint seaside Navy Town. The Navy has all the best locations on the seafront but you can get a good view of the bay from the Town Square overlooking the yacht basin. There are some great beaches nearby (Water's Edge on the way to Boulder's Beach is the secret local beach spot)! Another secret is that you can go and eat at the cheap False Bay Yacht Club cafe right on the water if you sign in at the gate...shh don't tell everyone!
