Duckfat is a favourite for lunch. Rob Evans is a three time Chopped champ and supports farm to table eating. Check out their website- they list which vendors they use http://duckfat.com/menu/ Try their Belgian fries made with local Maine potatoes fried in duck fat. Guilty pleasure!

Scarborough is the second location for this popular eatery. Great for a family dinner, date night, or meeting your pals for a filling meal before a night out. They also do take out. For $85 you can pick up a Grand Burrito Box filled with 10 fresh & hot burritos with your choice of any of our burrito fillings. The wait staff is friendly, the atmosphere casual and colourful, and the prices reasonable. My personal fav are the fish tacos and a coconut cupcake to go.

Best for casual dinners, meeting friends for drinks in the lounge, or brunch. Nice selections of wines, beers, and farm to table delights. I like the risotto. Someone in our party always orders the Paella and raves about it. I think other restaurants have better desserts but Local 188 is a solid go to and quick consensus when no one can decide.

I wouldn't make a special trip to Fernleaf but if you are passing through Saco, I'd stop for a quick lunch or a sweet treat. They have cold and warm sandwiches. Pies, cakes, pastries and usually a few gluten free choices. Their coconut, raspberry, chocolate confection is one of the best gluten free treats I've ever tasted.

Parks & Nature

Cross the street from your cottage, follow Bliss Street (literally), and the seagrass parts to welcome you to a path to seven miles of sandy beach. Even on it's busiest summer day, Pine Point Beach is less crowded and more delightful that other area beaches. Go left, walk a mile and you'll find the jetty. If you go during low tide, you can walk out onto the sandbar and explore the tidal pools. Go right, walk 2 miles and you will hit OOB where you can walk on the pier, enjoy handcut fries (locals add salt and vinegar), ride the ferris wheel, play games at the arcade, or purchase a souvenir.

Owned and managed by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the 3,100 acre estuary known as Scarborough Marsh is the largest salt marsh in the state, comprising tidal marsh, salt creeks, freshwater marsh and uplands. The center provides a variety of guided and self-guided walks, and canoe tours, as well as exhibits, a nature trail, canoe rentals and a Maine Audubon Nature Store. If you are in town during a full moon, don't miss the guided full moon canoe tour.

Essentials

Quick stop before heading home to pick up wine, cheese, deli goods, bakery treats, fresh fruits and veggies. It's a bit pricey but the quality never disappoints.

Entertainment & Activities

When the weather is nice, I love to take the Casco Bay Ferry to Peak's Island- rent a bike or golf cart- tour the island. Pick up a jar of fresh honey, play with the fairy rocks, visit the museums, and if you are brave- jump of the docks with the locals.
