Food Scene

Fantastic bakery items, great coffee and delicious breakfasts. It is open for all the meals, but it is known for the breakfast items. Tip: split a plate and pay the split fee (~$3), you will save money and end up with two full plates of food and maybe even have room for a pastry!

Delicious Mexican food, street tacos and bowls. Their margaritas are good and they usually offer you those while you wait in line to give your order. There is typically a line out the door. Don't let this deter you, the line moves at an ok pace and magically there will be a table available to you once you have your order in. Don't forget about the back patio where there are many tables.

The owner has been Michelin rated and now runs a tight ship on this upscale, hidden hideaway restaurant, tucked into the side of Mt. Tabor Park. Don't forget to save room for what they have become known for: Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Ice cream will never be the same. Salt & Straw solidified the artesian scene for ice-cream in Portland. Don't forget to check it out around the holidays where you will find willy wonka-ish flavors related to the season. (i.e. Turkey dinner, sweet potato, dressing..... all different ice-creams around Thanksgiving one year).

Drinks & Nightlife

I like suggesting this nightspot because it is unlike anything else you will find in Portland. Once you go in, you will feel like you are in NYC. The drinks are good and the food tasty although small portions. They have multiple outdoor areas or sit at the bar if you are going solo. A tip that I would never normally say, check out the cool bathrooms!

Interesting (in a good way) beer selections and inexpensive. Good for a quick stop to try some beers. It feels more like when you go to a winery for some wine tasting, except it's beer.

Parks & Nature

A quick walk across 60th Ave will put you in a Portland park that will give you views of mountains (Mt. Hood, St. Hellens), stunning sunrises and sunsets, and miles of trails. Multiple tennis courts, basketball court and laps around the reservoirs will keep your body in good shape. You will be surprised how quickly you will leave the city sounds behind when you walk into this park. Tip: find the caldera at the center of the park by the amphitheater. Tuesday nights in July free concerts.
