Food Scene

In the summer, this is within a reasonable walking distance to the condo. It's small but has good food and a full bar. The Texas Toothpicks (fried jalapeños and onions) are a great way to kick off dinner. My husband and son love the chicken fried steak. It's enormous. Unless you're a teenage boy, you'll have leftovers.

This is within the Country Club, but open to the public. Foodies need to check out this place. Chef Kevin is from NOLA, but spent the past 10 years in the Caribbean...so his food has been influenced by both and has a lot of flair. Beyond his entrees....his homemade cinnamon and mint ice creams are amazing. (Truly a must try. He's like the Willie Wonka of ice cream. It's sort of amazing it can taste so fresh.) For those who need a drink and aren't afraid of spice, the bartenders make a mean jalapeño margarita. And this is coming from a margarita snob. Meals may be a bit pricey, but with great food and views of the surrounding mountains, it's worth going if only for a burger.

Great pizza...and the homemade garlic breadsticks are insanely good. Can have a bit of a wait during peak season, but it's a solid choice for pizza. They do takeout, so may be a great option for a family night in without cooking...

Sightseeing

This memorial was created by a local couple whose smart, beautiful son was lost in the Vietnam War. Heartbroken, this local man created a memorial for his son and all Vietnam Veterans which has since grown and includes a unique cathedral. This was a labor of love -- a father's life work -- and is worth seeing. It's a tear-jerker for sure, but really great to honor the fallen -- a number of which are honored with full stories on their service as written by the founding father until his death a few years ago.
