Sightseeing

The Cathedral and area around it is worth a visit. Sometimes you find rehearsals of church bands/orchestras before entry and even pop dance performances in the courtyard outside. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g293924-d311082-Reviews-St_Joseph_s_Cathedral-Hanoi.html

This is a really interesting place where a lot of locals will also be going. This place is connected with the most important legend of Hanoi and it's definitely worth the visit. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g293924-d311070-Reviews-Lake_of_the_Restored_Sword_Hoan_Kiem_Lake-Hanoi.html

This thought-provoking site is all that remains of the former Hoa Lo Prison, ironically nicknamed the 'Hanoi Hilton' by US prisoners of war (POWs) during the American War. Most exhibits relate to the prison's use up to the mid-1950s, focusing on the Vietnamese struggle for independence from France. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g293924-d311069-Reviews-Hoa_Lo_Prison-Hanoi.html

Hang Gai street is one of the longer streets and in English is the Silk St. As the name implies the focus of many stores is silk and silk products. There is a stunning array and difference in quality of products for sale and as always barter on price. There are a number of groups who offer walking tours and as part of the tour go to different stores and will show the difference between different products. This can be a good way to learn the difference and hence the price , https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g293924-d311058-r429860116-Hang_Gai_Street_Street_of_Hemp-Hanoi.html

- 'Try something different' as travellers said. - 'You might have to walk around a bit to find it, but it is worth it. Sit with locals, and that adds to the fun. We love the Beef Half Done (that keeps cooking in the broth). Less than $3 for a big bowl! It is open from 6 am to 10 pm!. Might be a queue due to its popularity!'. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293924-d1568591-Reviews-Pho_10-Hanoi.html

Near St Joseph church you can find a great place to chill out and enjoy a great coffee. If possible I suggest to seat in the small and thin balcony so that you can enjoy the view... https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293924-d1237755-Reviews-Hanoi_House-Hanoi.html

Cong Caphe is like the Starbucks of Hanoi. Cong Caphe does not have the long history, the old traditional building and architecture style like Café Lam or Café Giang, but it still attracts tourists with harmony in the designs and theme of the coffee shop. Because of the brown and green representing the Vietnamese soldiers, the point here is to create the nostalgic feelings for visitors. MUST TRY: COCONUT COFFEE https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293924-d3740994-Reviews-Cong_Caphe-Hanoi.html

'Stylish place with good western and Vietnamese food' 'Located just at the cathedral square, with three floors and balcony, where you can eat and also have coffee/tea with cakes. A very nice atmosphere, and excellent food; best place where I ate spring rolls ever; o repeated the visit during my stay at Hanoi. Staff is very friendly and English spoken, same as the food letter. 100 % recommended.' https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293924-d1634933-Reviews-La_Place-Hanoi.html
