Drinks & Nightlife

The Royal Standard of England is the oldest freehouse in England and is steeped in history. It is within walking distance from the apartments and well worth a visit. They serve good pub grub at fair prices. Nice to sit outside on sunny days. Popular with locals and tourists alike. It has a rich history spanning over 800 years and was a mustering station during the Civil War! Every Christmas morning many locals meet there and stand outside, whatever the weather, drinking vin chaud, mulled wine, bucks fizz, egg nog or your favourite tipple, as well as a large serving of community spirit.

Visiting the Old Town in Beaconsfield is a must if you are staying in town. It has beautiful old architecture, St. Mary's Church is very pretty as is this pub/restaurant's Tudor style building. It may date back as early as 1242 according to Beaconsfield History website. If you fancy something a bit more crazy and extravagant/ avant garde, then pop into The Crazy Bear. Not for everyone and there is a dress code (although not too strict). Sit in the Moroccan Tent or by the pool (weather permitting). At the time of going to press they have a Champagne Wednesday, where any bottle of champagne is half price! Cheers! Best to book and there are sometimes offers on Groupon - worth a look.

Essentials

Waitrose is the closest supermarket and a two-minute walk from the apartments. It sells the highest quality range of products and is fairly high-end, but still competitive. Otherwise there is a Sainsbury's within less than 10 minutes walk, situated in Maxwell Road (also an M&S foodhall too).

Uniquely the NFTS is based in Beaconsfield and is a short walk from Warwick Road Studios. Check out their website, as they often have fascinating movies there, which are open to the public. There is also a bar there for a pre-movie tipple! The team from the National Film and Television School cwere recently honoured by BAFTA for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema.

Food Scene

The food at Thai Sense is very good and reasonably priced. It's my go-to place for a Take-away, but lovely to sit in and enjoy being served.

Jungs is a continental cafe and makes fresh bread and pastries at its premises each day. Perfect for a morning coffee and croissant, or something more hearty.
