Foy’s is probably the absolute closest eating spot to the apartment, and has one of the loveliest views. Walk down High St towards the water, and about 100 metres from the building you’ll find a little walkway and set of stairs that will take you straight down to the water end of Milson Park below. Foy’s is then across the bottom of the park on McDougall St. Set in a newly renovated and reopened flying squadron yacht club right on picturesque Careening Cove, Foy’s has a full modern australian menu and a comprehensive drinks menu. Try to get a spot out on the balcony to watch the ferries go by. Open Tuesday-Sunday, noon-10pm, with live music from 6pm on Thursdays. Phone 9955 8350 http://www

Celcius Coffee is in a truly fantastic spot, perched literally over the water at Kirribilli Ferry Wharf. From the apartment you can either walk across Milson Park and around the back streets to the wharf, or get on a ferry at the end of High St and take the scenic route - it’s the third stop. From there you can get on another ferry and keep going to Circular Quay, or come one stop back to High St (North Sydney). Anvil does great coffee, breakfasts and lunches, and are open Monday-Friday 7:30-2:30, and 8am-3pm on the weekends. Phone 9922 2245 www.celciuscoffeeco.com.au

Ripples Milsons Point is a unique place to eat in Sydney, and only a 10 minute walk from the apartment, down underneath the Bridge. They do Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner 7 days a week with spectacular harbour views. Anytime is good to go, but I’d recommend breakfast or lunch to take in the harbour during the daylight. Again it’s very popular especially for weekend breakfasts, so: Phone 9929 7722 www.ripplesmilsonspoint.com.au

Lavendra is a little place on the corner of Walker and Lavender Streets in Lavender Bay (other side of Milsons Point Station). This is a fantastic harbour walk from Taronga past Athol Bay, around Bradleys Head Reserve and on to Chowder Bay. To get there without a car, catch a ferry to Circular Quay and back across to Taronga Zoo. The walk starts almost at the wharf and ends at Chowder Bay, where there is a quite secluded beach and a great restaurant, Ripples Chowder Bay.

MacCallum Pool is a bit of a northside secret - it’s a saltwater harbour pool with heritage features set literally into the sandstone of the harbour wall. Here you can have a dip with truly spectacular harbour views, and/or picnic on the grassy promenade of Cremorne Walk next to the pool. Being a harbour pool it needs to be drained and cleaned once a week, which means it’s closed for a few hours on some days. It’s worth checking the council website just to make sure you don’t go at an unlucky time of the week! http://www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au/recreation_facilities/places_of_interest/maccallum_pool

Coco Chocolate is a fantastic local business specialising in boutique chocolates, truffles and hot chocolates. It's a great place to get gifts - their products all look exquisite, and they have some fantastic seasonal flavours like Christmas Pudding and Hot Cross Bun spice. They do chocolate making courses in Mosman, or you can drop in to their Kirribilli store just for an (award winning) hot chocolate.

Kirribilli Markets are also definitely worth a visit – they’re on up at the Burton St Tunnel (which runs under the railway near the station). The Art & Design and Fashion Markets are probably the best to go to – they’re on the 2nd Sunday of every month from 9am-3pm. The General Market is on every 4th Saturday from 7am-3pm. They have a great range of food stalls in particular, and the Art & Design markets are great for jewelry, fashion and unique gifts. www.kirribillimarkets.com

This is a great little theatre just steps from the apartment which offers some ten plays a year with small casts of top notch Australian actors and a really interesting selection of plays. The MCA always has interesting exhibitions on, and is very easy to get to from the apartment either by foot or ferry. This is one of my favourite galleries anywhere in the world. It features changing exhibitions of contemporary Chinese and Taiwanese art, and has a great Teahouse on the ground floor with a huge selection of teas, handmade dumplings and scones. It's alway interesting, the staff are knowledgeable, helpful and do great tours, and it's completely free. A short walk from Central Station.

Our biggest gallery, featuring fantastic changing exhibitions and a fantastic permanent collection of Australian, Indigenous and Asian Art, which is free. There is a great restaurant with views over Woolloomooloo, and a cafe, and it's set within the Botanic Gardens. It's a great walk along from the Gallery to Mrs Macquaries' Chair (for iconic Sydney views). There are programs of talks, comedy, movies and music and it's open late on Wednesday nights with a program of night events.

This is a very atmospheric Sydney experience aboard a restored tall ship. You can actually see this ship go past alongside the more modern ferries if you’re sitting on the balcony. Probably a sunset cruise would be ideal, and you do need to book: http://www.sydneytallships.com.au

This is an iconic Sydney sightseeing activity and one worth doing! You can access the starting point after walking across the bridge from Kirribilli, but you may want to save your walking legs and take a ferry from North Sydney wharf instead. It's not cheap, so if you want a cheaper option, you can climb one of the pylons instead (accessible by walking from Kirribilli)
