Blue Ginger Cafe is an eclectic, relaxed space populated by locals and tourists alike, and usually more than a few dogs. The fare is old school, hearty healthy food with daily specials for breakfast and lunch. The pantry is a vast delicatessen that is the other half of the shop, with an endless selection of trending ingredients and food styles to choose from. You’ll find something for the gluten free, sugar free, vegan, vegetarian, the paleo, the ancient grainer and the good old fashioned big brekky, burger eating omnivore. Oh and the coffee is widely view as the best around. But of course they are going to say that. Cafe open Mon – Fri 7.30am – 3.30pm, Sat & Sun 7.30am – 3.30pm

Locals regard this Asian Fusion restaurant as the best one in town (and that's coming from another food venue!) and we agree! Great food, great venue and the degustation menu matches sake with the courses - perfect way to see which ones you like the best. Make sure to book as for the second year in a row Miki's Open Kitchen has been recognised as one of Australia's Top Restaurants in Australian Financial Review Top Restaurants, presented by Qantas. It's not a huge venue and main seats are at the bar where you watch the chefs do thier magic!

Simply the best unique little bakery/cafe in town (just after entrance service station) with funky comfy couches, organic breads for all types of tastes and diets, and yummy healthy paninis, salads, pies and not-so-healthy infamous almond croissants and desserts - we had the most divine salted caramel mini choc pie at Easter - wish we didn't share it! Open Monday-Saturday 7am – 4pm. Also makes an appearance at the fortnightly farmers markets helping to nourish hungry market nomads. Famous for almond and chocolate croissants, warm sourdoughs and baguettes.

Traditional butchers and smallgoods makers sourcing pigs, lambs and beef direct from the farm to prepare fresh cuts, fresh sausages and smallgoods in the traditional style. Delicious chorizo, bacon and ham within minimum nitrates as a healthier option that we always have in the fridge. You can find Mr Hohnen at the weekly farmers markets or The Farm House range at local stockists: McHenry Hohnen cellar door (Twigs local winery), Blue Ginger or The Larder (all in the guidebook).

We LOVE The Farmers Market and you frequently get to taste the produce we leave in the cabin for you. The Margaret River Farmers’ Market has been a feature of the region for over 13 years. The market has grown to be a Saturday morning fixture with up to 50 stalls. Only producers from the local Shires and surrounding south west are eligible to set up a stall, and the stalls are operated by the people who grow or make the produce. This makes the Margaret River Market one of only a few genuine Farmers’ Markets in the state. The Farmers’ Market is a business incubator, with local producers testing new products and developing new enterprises from the opportunity created by its thriving, vibrant atmosphere. Each market features a breakfast bar run by a local charity, school or sporting organisation to raise funds for their cause. In an environment where food supply in Australia is increasingly controlled by large supermarket chains, the market is an important alternative outlet for produce and an integral part of successful farmers’ businesses. Customers can connect with the producers of the food they eat, and feel confident that the produce has a low carbon footprint, supports local livelihoods, and helps to preserve the environmental integrity of the Margaret River Region.

The Margaret River Dairy Company’s origins go back to 1966 when a group of Italian artisan cheesemakers began selling their farmhouse and ricotta cheeses in a small store in suburban Perth. In 1990 they moved to the unspoilt South West to be closer to the rich soils and rolling green pastures beloved by dairy cattle. The Margaret River Dairy Company has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Family owned, Leeuwin Estate, one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia, is under the direction of two generations who work with a team of highly skilled winemakers to consistently produce wines ranking alongside the world's finest. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate. Enjoying its first commercial vintage in 1979, Leeuwin was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay. The international accolades have continued and Leeuwin now exports to 30 markets. Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award winning restaurant, cellardoor and art gallery. Each year Leeuwin stages a series of spectacular alfresco concerts in the picturesque grounds of the Estate as part of the Winery's ongoing association and sponsorship of the Arts. The Leeuwin Concert series is a highlight in Australia's social and cultural calendar. Visitors from all over Australia and abroad make the pilgrimage to the Margaret River Estate to enjoy the music of the industry's greatest performers. Attired in anything from top hats to t-shirts, they picnic on the lawns whilst enjoying these remarkable events. As the sun sets over a majestic backdrop of karri forest and music fills the natural amphitheatre, Leeuwin's famous kookaburras commence their cackling chorus to the amusement of guests and entertainers alike. Described as the most extraordinary concerts ever held in Australia, the annual Leeuwin Concert Series now enjoys a 31-year history and features an eclectic mix of the world's finest musicians and entertainers from Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to Ray Charles, Tom Jones, Carole King and Sting.

My friend invited me to a mystery lunch where they have just bought a block of land and it was at Brookwood Estate. We had a free winetasting and a free glass of our choice with lunch which was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to take my husband there. Not kid-friendly though with no play equipment and not much area to run around in, but has a beautiful view of the vineyard and valley. Lovely place. Brookwood Estate nurtures the biological life in our soil as it is the foundation of a strong ecosystem that grows healthy, resilient grapevines resistant to attack from pests and diseases and provides super tasty, sweet, flavour packed fruit that you have come to know and love in unique Brookwood Estate grown wines. Their winemaking philosophies are born from a respect of old world ways, an intrigue for new world ways with a balance of the two being the desired outcome. They aim for minimal intervention in the winemaking process to capture the essence of their individual grape varieties and their unique expression from being grown onsite.

Quality organic wines. In the past 7 years Settlers Ridge have won more than 50 medals at wine shows, providing compelling evidence that organic techniques can produce high-quality wines. Every Shiraz produced has won either a gold or a silver medal in open competition (not just competing in an organic section). They are about to open a cellar door - bonus as I really want to learn more about the organic process.

Just a little south of Margaret River on the corner of Bussell Highway and Shervington Ave is a unique place with a range of hand made products from hand-pured candles in a myriad of colours and candlelabras to wine barrels to lazy susans, cheese boards, fruit bowls, coffee tables, wine racks and lots more. Locally made timber products, predominantly made using oak wine barrels. We bought a lemon myrtle candle that has the most divine scent and pot rack made from wine barrels - you can see the red wine stains from inside the barrel which is a gorgeous rosy red - love it!
