Arts & Culture

Less than 5 minutes' walk from the apartment towards the village. A tiny museum about the history of the valley and its people. Quirky.

Parks & Nature

A tiny village at the end of the Lauterbrunnen valley. Have a pit stop in the small restaurant. It's about about 5 kilometres' walk but you can also catch the 141 bus from outside the apartment. There are plenty of interesting walks further up the valley into the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch region.

Europe's largest subterranean waterfalls. They carry the melt water of the glacier from the Jungfrau down to the valley. Up to 20,000 litres of water per second plummet down inside the mountain carving out the rock into smooth curves. The water carries with it over 20,000 tons of boulders and scree per year and causes the entire mountain to shudder and make a thundering noise. The best time of year to visit is late spring or early summer when the melt waters are at their greatest.

Lauterbrunnen's most famous and spectacular waterfall. Walk behind the cascading waters - without getting too wet! And it's free! The Staubbach Falls are 5 minutes' walk away. Cross the small stream (the Luterbach) and then the river Weisse Lütschine towards the campsite (Camping Jungfrau). After leaving the far side of the campsite turn right onto the road. The falls are more or less opposite the cemetery. You can walk behind the falls for a refreshing view across the valley.

Fantastic views over Interlaken, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz and up to the Jungfrau. All this while standing on a suspended glass viewing platform. Take the funicular from Interlaken (near Interlaken Ost station) or if you feel up to a challenge, hike it!

On the opposite side of the Lauterbrunnen valley from the Jungfraujoch. Travel to Mürren and then by cable car to the Schilthorn, location for the James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. Allow a whole day. From the Schilthorn you will enjoy spectacular views of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, Breithorn, etc. as well as the lakes down at Interlaken. Try out the revolving restaurant for lunch or the James Bond Brunch and a 360° view. A visit to the James Bond museum is also great fun. On the way down from Schilthorn you change cable cars at Birg. Stop off and have a wander round the glass viewing platform, where you can look down into the plunging depths. It's a great day out.

Europe’s highest station, “Top of Europe”. Well worth a visit. Walk very slowly at the top as the air is thin and you can easily become light-headed. It is also the home of Europe's highest post office! Tickets can be bought at the station or at the Reception in Camping Jungfrau. Check the weather forecast before booking. Allow a whole day. https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfraujoch-top-of-europe/

Travel by bus (142) from Lauterbrunnen station to Isenfluh, a tiny mountain village overlooking the valley and from there take a tiny cable car even higher to Sulwald for great views and plenty of hiking opportunities. You can also hire a monster scooter and ride back down to Isenfluh – great fun.
