The Jesup Drive-in opened in 1948, just a few years after World War II ended. It was a time of optimism and new beginnings. Today, renovations are afoot to improve the experience of the Drive-In by enhancing the nostalgic ambiance. Plans include adding décor from the 1950s era. One specific addition is our carhops — waiters/waitresses dressed in 50’s attire — who can take food orders from your car. You can also call in or text us your food orders. The Jesup Drive-In is a real treasure. In 1958, there were more than 4,000 drive-ins in operation across the United States, but today only 372 remain. We’re fortunate in Jesup to have one of only a few Drive-Ins left in the entire nation, and the oldest Drive-In in Georgia.

Neighborhoods

Shellman Bluff is a peaceful, picturesque fish camp village that retains its distinctive charm. Quaint, screened fishing cottages sit back among oaks festooned with Spanish moss. All the dirt roads of the quiet village seem to lead inevitably to the high bluff that overlooks the Broro and Julienton rivers. Winding along the edge of the high bluff is another sandy road that offers one of the best coastal views in Georgia. In the morning, the sun rises from behind Harris Neck, lighting the green marsh and dappling the tidal rivers while birds roost in distant hammock islands. Shellman Bluff was the location of Shellman Plantation, operated by William Cooke until his death in 1861. South of Shellman Bluff is Sutherland Bluff, the scene of Revolutionary War shipbuilding activity and the antebellum Brailsford Plantation. Today, it is Sutherland Bluff Plantation, a community overlooking the river and Sapelo Hammock Golf Club.

Darien, the place where the term "Golden Isles" was coined, offers a wealth of attractions that, for many, are being discovered for the first time. Located along the Georgia Atlantic Coast and Altamaha Scenic Byway, Darien offers striking "see forever" views across what has been described by experts as "one of the most important tidal estuarine environments in the world." If you love being near water, a mild climate, history, nature, panoramic views and clean air, with great access to shopping and services, you'll love what Darien has to offer. We're just an hour in each direction from Savannah, Georgia, to the north, and Jacksonville, Florida, to the South. Come for the day, or stay longer. Go on a boat tour, deep sea fishing, or fish right off our beautiful docks; swim in the ocean surrounding pristine islands with maritime forests; go bird and nature watching, or biking along miles of trails. Take photographs of the sun setting right down on the water.

Since 2005 when Chef Jerome went from the Buccaneer Restaurant to open his 4 table Old School Diner “family restaurant” people followed him. Only serving the freshest seafood from local waters is his goal. Additions to his very small space were made over the following years and now can seat 200+ people. That amount “of family” is rare at the Old School Diner but on special occasions, like Mother’s day, it comes very close to capacity.
