Do you drink non-alcoholic beer or Coke Zero? Do you smoke light cirarettes or e-cigs? Do you like wooden look laminate? Results of plastic surgery turn you on? Well, if you happen to be a vegetarian and answered three or more of the above questions with yes – then The Vegetarian Butcher may be your thing. http://der-vegetarische-metzger.de/en/homepage/

Austrians are the better Germans – at least when it comes to cuisine ... Here they serve huge Wiener Schnitzel, tasty spinach Knödel, or yummy Palatschinken for dessert. I love their Vogerlsalat! If you're really lucky, you'll be attended with the typical Viennese stance of discreet friendlyness, blent with a trifle arrogance. http://www.austria-berlin.de/

Molinari & Ko is a restaurant, café and breakfast place. Pasta and fresh wild herbs form the basis of the constantly changing seasonal menu. During the open-air season, its relatively quiet location only a block away from the lively Bergmannstraße offers a relaxed alternative to the cafés and restaurants that compete on the sidewalks along the main street. "The multinational team serves a similarly colorful mix of guests who live, work or vacation in the neighborhood with great enjoyment of communication and the many languages with which we are addressed." Night Out
Don't trust my advice. Ask a younger, hipper, cooler person! New Wave/Industrial/House during the 80s and Techno/DnB/Electro of the Naughties made me dance (or hang around) in Berlin's clubs. However, as a 20 or 30something I would't have relied on the expertise of an old bore like my present self ... This being said:
In the very heart of Berlin's most colorful quarter, lies Birgit: a huge, magical playground for adults. Our Birgit reigns over three magnificent dance floors equipped with powerful Funktion One systems. Each floor is designed for a completely different musical style: Birgit's Wohnzimmer is a half open cosy living room for Berlin's finest Deep and Tech House. The Bunker floor is a powerful, hypnotizing Techno vault, and the Rummel floor is a fun floor where everything but electronic music is being played. Whether you are there to enjoy a cold, fresh keg beer or to lose yourself in Birgit's full weekend party program, Birgit is exactly the venue that offers you the best of everything you ever loved in the night. This labyrinthine riverside hotspot cuddles up to the Spree, and its infamous weekenders rage on past Monday. Equally famous for its parties as its décor, Salon zur Wilden Renate has established quite a reputation since opening. Parties like The House of Red Doors bring a host of guests solely for its erotic-oriented, masquerade evenings. While wandering the giant apartment’s separated flats and individual rooms, you can listen to selections that range from techno and house to the more minimal side of underground dance music. ://about blank is a formerly illegal, multi-room club by Ostrkeuz S-Bahnhof in Friedrichshain. It's a short walk from Salon zur wilden Renate, and like that club, it's a lightly renovated re-purposed building with seemingly endless nooks and crannies. There are two main dance floors inside, and in the summer DJs play out in the garden (this is open in the winter too, often with a bonfire going). The music policy is open-ended but mostly focused on house and techno, with occasional bass or disco nights. The overall atmosphere is gritty, and the parties often go well into the following afternoon or evening. [(C) residentadvisor.net]

Kreuzberg’s Gretchen Club, just steps away from U-Bahn station Mehringdamm, is one of Berlin’s most important drum & bass havens. While the layout isn’t necessarily that impressive—it consists of mainly one large rectangular room—the lineup of artists featured certainly is. Residents like Berlin’s Delfonic have helped pave a positive reputation for their informed weekly DJs. It’s also the location for The Bug’s “Pressure” parties, which feature a specially brought in Jamaican-style sound system. Outside of weekends, you can expect to see a range of live performances, including up-and-coming jazz musicians, that compose a multicultural, multigenerational crowd. The sound is loud, but it’s unfortunately not the best the city has to offer. [(C) electronicbeats.net/berlin-club-guide-2018]

In the remote part of the canal on the edge of Kreuzberg and Neukölln only two bouncers at the huge gate of the industrial building are a sign that something is happening inside. Inside, that is in the rear of the building, in what looks like a cantina and which is being furbished in the brown interior of the seventies and eighties. The beautiful thing about the small Loftus Hall is that, music-wise, the venue is very contemporary and one of the breeding grounds of Berlin for DJ talent. [(C) heimatberlin.nl]

The spacious club is situated in an old factory building. Vividly decorated walls, coloured lights and different floors with witty names and extravagant decorations, with chandeliers and mirror balls. The venue has three main dance floors, plus an outdoor courtyard that's open in the summer. A local institution. Assuming you aren't a vegetarian, this fast food stand offers a great alternative to Döner. Yes, Gyros is pork, not calf, like Döner shold be - in therory ... In fact, most Döners in town are made from meat of minor quality (chicken is even cheaper!), with lots of ingredients you probably wouldn't want to know in detail if hunger has its grip on you ... Diverse Parks Nearby
A park is not necessarily defined by its present or former purpose. A God's Acre may as much be beneficial to spiritual recreation as a former runway contributes to public health. A third park encloses a monument, long ago erected in commemoration of a past victorious battle, and two monumental defeats later it still is a meaningful place. Last not least, what may have begun as a training ground for blonde warriors turned out to be the birthplace of today's gymnastics.

"An overgrown wilderness and carefully designed landscape, restorative retreat and versatile open space – a new type of city park has been created in Berlin’s Gleisdreieck area. Local residents were involved in its development from the outset. The 26-hectare Park am Gleisdreieck, consisting of eastern and western Ostpark and Westpark sections, has evolved from an inaccessible wasteland to a favourite place for Berliners and tourists of all ages." "A hundred years ago this was a railway hub in an industrial setting. Now a modern Berlin public park offers space for everyone: skaters and joggers, walkers and beach volleyball players, picnickers and sports enthusiasts, nature explorers and technology fans." https://gruen-berlin.de/en/park-am-gleisdreieck

What is now Teufelsberg started out as the site of the Nazi military academy designed by Albert Speer but was never completed due to WWII. Demolishing the structure proved to be such a daunting task in the aftermath of the war that it was simply buried under the rubble of the bombed-out city. Thus the highest elevation of Berlin was created. As the cold war heated up American and British spooks side by side but separately used the high ground on Teufelsberg to set up a permanent 'signal intercept station' in the late 60s which they then expanded over the following decades. This facility was widely assumed to be part of the ECHELON ground station network - probably the most important NATO sigint facility over many years. Following the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991 the station was decommissioned. US forces removed most of the sensitive equipment and electronics and demolished a few buildings but left the majority of the station intact. It was bought up by private investors shortly afterwards but property prices in Berlin fell sharply in the 90s and the plan to turn the station into an apartment complex fell through. Since then it has been pulled apart by vandals and scrappers and, more recently, has been converted into an artist space of sorts with hundreds of square meters of graffiti murals and large-scale stencil art. Even the Berlin Senate has meanwhile become aware of the historical significance of this place, but so far there are no effective actions or ideas worth mentioning to do justice to it. The wild days when a side cutter bought you entry are over. But also today, as part of a paid guided tour on weekends, the way from Grunewald station and the ascent and waiting for the entrance is worthwhile. Even for families with obedient children (danger when leaving the paths!) this place can be a great adventure, combined for instance with a visit to the nearby Ökowerk; in Summer the Teufelssee lake invites you for a swim, in autumn the neighbouring, flat section of the mountain is perfect for kite flying. One cannot sit on more layers of recent history than on this spot. In short: my favorite historic place. https://teufelsberg-berlin.de/content/7-fuehrungen https://www.spiegel.de/geschichte/teufelsberg-berlin-kunst-auf-weltkriegsschutt-a-1146754.html https://rijmenants.blogspot.com/2009/06/teufelsberg.html https://riddip.com/teufelsburg-berlin http://forst-grunewald.de/?page_id=3802 http://www.brendanjamison.com/teufelsbergphotography.html http://www.oekowerk.de/

The Japanese Embassy in Berlin is located in the embassy quarter at the corner of Hiroshimastraße and Tiergartenstraße in Berlin's Tiergarten district. The embassy building was originally built between 1938 and 1942 under the supervision of Albert Speer. The previous building had had to give way to the plans for a huge north-south axis in the planned "world capital Germania". Germany compensated the Japanese Empire with a large piece of land in the newly built embassy quarter at Tiergarten. However, the building itself also had to satisfy the ideas of the German Reich leadership, so that the result was a comparatively sterile classicist building. The building was to impress above all by its size, the columns at the main entrance were a formative stylistic element. Although the German developer provided the interior of the building with a great deal of luxury, during the Second World War a large part of the administration took place in bunkers and other air-raid shelters. https://www.archinform.net/projekte/9076.htm English text about the embassy quarter, located between Zoo and Tiergarten park: https://www.inyourpocket.com/berlin/Embassy-architecture_55348f

This is where the "cosmopolitan consuming class" meets.: "The current clashes over the Admiralsbrücke in Kreuzberg, where people like to congregate and party at night, could be blamed on tourists and transients. However, the issue is not about tourists versus residents per se. It is about certain tourists and residents – ‘place’ consumers, so to speak – using the city differently than other residents, particularly those who sleep at night." https://www.exberliner.com/features/zeitgeist/help-the-post-tourism-tourists-are-here/
