The Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens are beautiful and a lovely place to talk a stroll. For a serious hike you can't beat the many trails around Mt Coot-tha. There are cafes in the gardens and at the lookout where you can get a bird's eye view of Brisbane and the meandering Brisbane River.

The park features a variety of themed gardens and recreational areas, with a web of pathways and boardwalks traversing cascading waterways and rocky outcrops. There's an amphitheatre and and lake, and also a cafe. Look out for the numerous water dragons lazing in the sun. It's well worth a visit. Entry is free.

There's a constant stream of locals picking up take-aways. It's BYO, so you can pick up a bottle of wine or beer from the Bottle Shop across the road.
