Southwold is unique, must be why so many visitors come back year after year. It has a great collection of decent Adnams pubs some lovely restaurants and a pretty high street with coffee shops sweet and ice cream shops. Even the charity shops are upmarket. I think my favourite part is still the beach, it stretches for miles and has a great family pier with the old amusements which is really worth a visit (also a large modern arcade which my kids used to spend ages in) and a lovely sandy beach, during the summer it feels like you’re abroad.

You can walk from Ferry Road to Walberswick. It’s a lovey walk past the Sail Loft pub of you need a pint en route (there are public toilets a little further in too), keep following the road until you cross over the bridge into Walberswick quay. There are a couple of decent pubs to eat and coffee shops and you can get buckets and nets for the famous crabbing off the bridge. When you head back it’s worth walking the other direction after the bridge, along the river so passing the fish n chips hut (best ever)! Or Le Roc the new restaurant on the waterfront. You can turn right at the harbour inn and get back into town that way too.

Open until ten most nights and has a reasonable range, easy to reach just turn left out of the close and walk up Cumberland Road past the primary school and then head up Church Street towards the High Street, just a couple of minutes walk. You also have a small tescos, cross the road outside co op and walk down Queen Street past Suffolk Secrets and Tesco is on the left.
