Sightseeing

A hidden gem. There is an entry fee of $5, that you pay when you exit the canyon, and it’s worth every dollar. This canyon seems small as you drive up it, but once you venture out on the trails it opens it up to some amazing views, so make sure to bring your hiking shoes. If your not into hiking there are still a lot of beautiful pull over spots along you way up and down the canyon. Also, don’t forget your picnic basket, as there are a lot of shaded picnic spots situated right next to the creek.

Liberty Park is our favorite park in the city. The park is full of shade provided by the the very large trees throughout the park. The South end of the park has a small pond with ducks and geese. While you’re at the South end, make sure to drink from the spring water fountain, and bring your water bottles to fill up. The park also has a splash pad for the kids(during the summer months), playground, sand volleyball courts, and barbecue grills. If you’re there on a Sunday evening, don’t be surprised if you hear the drum circle on the South end. During the summers, on the weekends they have a farmers market. Restroom are open during the summer months.

Closest canyon to downtown, and perfect canyon for a walk, jog, or bike ride. The road is paved, and it follows the creek up the canyon making it refreshing on those hot summer days.

Food scene

The food is authentic, one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in SLC. The food is the closest to Mexico City cuisine you can get when eating out. The dining is very casual, and may be considered a “dive”, with delicious food.

Just down the street from your suite, this small restaurant/ brewery is in the perfect location to walk to. The food is good, with a variety to choose from. My favorites are their Traeger smoke pork belly tacos, or their fish’n chips(with Salmon). They have a great selection of their locally brewed beer to chose from as well.

Oh Pho!!!! Our favorite dish is the Vegan Pho, especially on a rainy or cooler day. The sandwiches are really good as well. There are several location, two of our favorites are the one in downtown which is convenient (closest to where you’re staying), and the original is in South Salt Lake (State street) which is inside a bungalow house converted to a restaurant (great ambiance).

Pizza by the slice. Options for everyone. The pizza is very thin crust, and delicious!!! When you enter, if there is no line, you’ll see a variety of pizzas lined up with the vegetarians closest toward you, and the non-vegetarian options on the second row farther away from you. To help guide you in your selection, there are the names and primary ingredients of the pizzas posted on the wall. You’ll order at the counter, and then about 2-4 minutes after you pay your reheated slice will be served on a paper plate right next to the cashier. Be attentive, as they’ll usually call out what slices you ordered, which is your cue to pick it up. Also, this place stays open late, so don’t be surprised to see a line on a weekend night shortly after the bars close.
