Food Scene

One of the best restaurants in the area. A bit pricey, but they have a nice selection of lovely dishes. Reservations are a must on the weekend. Ask for outside dining if the weather is nice--it gets a bit loud inside.

You mostly come here for take out, but they have some seating. Good BBQ though!

Unique menu that changes all the time using fresh foods in season. Not a huge place, so best to get in early. Very nice atmosphere and good local wines as well. They're open for lunch, too.

Love the historic building...the restaurant is down the steps into the cellar where you can see mines from the old gold rush days. Food is good and often there's some live music (mostly background music). This place is off the beaten path--you'll never just "stumble" across it, but it's a nice historic place to have a meal. They are open for brunch on the weekends; otherwise, dinners Wednesdays through Sundays. They can handle large groups with reservations.

"The Cozmic Cafe is Placerville’s hub for the arts, fine coffees, ethical foods, micro-brews, wine and live music." This is an awesome place. Historic building used to be "Placerville Soda Works," great breakfasts, lunches, coffees and espressos and smoothies... Go to the Farmer's market across the street on Saturdays and hit them on the way in or out for coffee, a yummy breakfast burrito, or lunch. Have your lunch in one of the mine shafts that are dug into the hillside. It is really pretty cool. They have tons of events and live music upstairs. They can get some pretty interesting music and events there--sometimes Tibetan monks creating a huge sand mandala, yoga, children's story telling, bands you've never heard of... Best to call them since their web site is often not up to date.

There's always live music down Main Street in historic Placerville on Fridays through Sundays (days and nights)--sometimes other days of the week as well. Search for "Placerville Downtown events" for the official Main St. events.

Drinks & Nightlife

A small wine bar, but a nice selection of wines from local wineries that you may not find anywhere else. They often have live music in the evening. Check their web page for a schedule.

Parks & Nature

This is where gold was first "discovered" in California. The town is preserved and people dressed in 1800s attire. Try your hand at panning for gold, take a walk along the river and see the old mill. Interesting shops and activities. Good for kids and adults.

Nice park on the South Fork of the American River. Watch rafters go by, kids will enjoy the beach area. Picnic areas.

Arts & Culture

Very small museum, but if you're interested in the gold rush, it's worth the stop. Located right on the grounds of the County Fair with easy access on Placerville Drive. Ask about El Dorado Western Railroad--the narrow gauge railroad "train" that runs on Sundays--every other Sunday right across our street!

Shopping

Touristy, but they have a lot of interesting shops. They do roll up the sidewalks at 5 pm, so it's a daytime activity (except for bars and restaurants).
