The Special Ops & Airborne Museum in downtown Fayetteville is fun to visit — and downtown Fayetteville (my hometown!) is a fun place to spend an afternoon shopping boutiques, browsing antique stores, eating at local restaurants and visiting wine shops and breweries.

Other ideas for hiking/nature excursions: Carver’s Creek State Park in Spring Lake, Weymouth Woods in Southern Pines, Aloha Zoo in Sanford, Cape Fear River Trail in Fayetteville.
