Sightseeing

Those of us who live in the Fresno/Clovis area know that the best entrance to Yosemite National Park is the south entrance. Why? Drama! You look down on the valley as you come around a corner after travelling through a tunnel. Magnificent! Also, you have immediate access after entering the park to a large grove of Sequoia Gigantea thank you can hike in a loop. On your way back you can get the view seen above at Glacier Point which is only accessible by car on the south road through the park. Of course we are also equally close to the entrances to King's Canyon and Sequouia National Parks. Finally, day trips to the central Pacific coasts and beaches are about two hours by car. Plenty of time to play in the surf, relax on the beach, and be home in time to get to bed on time. No need to book rooms at any other place. And all of these locations are close enough to get home in time to relax in the spa to ensure a good night's sleep!

The biggest (not tallest) trees in the world. These majestic trees will stay with you. Until you stand at their feet you can't imagine the affect it will have on you. This park features the two largest trees on earth, named General Grant, also known as the National Christmas Tree, and General Sherman (the largest). There are actually groups that trek through the snow to visit the Christmas tree on the holiday.

This is a famous local site. If you are here in the height of summer to experience the valley heat you might just understand the inspiration behind this ingenious and lovely garden.

Food scene

We are lucky to have a small local market host many food trucks for lunch and dinner. They rotate and there are often six to eight different trucks featuring different cuisines. It is a popular destination and under 10 minutes to walk to the corner for us.

Animal Park

Our daughter volunteered here for a year and we loved to visit. The docents are all lovers of wild cats and do their best, since they are all rescue cats, to give them the space and care they deserve. It is on the way to either King's Canyon or Sequoia National Parks. They may require a reservation depending on the time of year and day.

Beach and Coastal

Though Pismo Beach and its many neighbors do not belong to the central California valley, it is where we locals head when we want to spend a day at the coast, and it is only a couple of hours away. Plenty of time to get some sun, sea, and sand, and get back for a relaxing evening at home.

Hikes and Walks

Looking for a spectacular day hike just minutes away? We have it. Some of our guest have enjoyed this hike when they have limited time. Take the day or just a few hours. Beautiful views are just a few minutes hike from the parking area at the trailhead.

Railroad Park is so named because it is a stop along the Rails to Trails project of the cities of Clovis and Fresno. it's about three blocks from our house. Old railways have been converted to two wide two lane pathways for walking or riding. The trails are long, have several branches and pass through many parks and along some creeks. The Clovis portion of the trail heads right to quaint downtown Clovis which features unique restaurants and antique shops. Our home is a great place to launch your discovery of our lovely community by bicycle.
