“The 1678 Joshua Hempsted House in New London is one of New England’s oldest and most well documented dwellings. Adjacent to the Joshua Hempsted House is a rare stone house built in 1759 by Nathaniel Hempsted. Both structures survived the 1781 burning of New London and stand today as testaments of 17th and 18th-century daily life. Check website for hours of operation and to take a tour.”

“Rotating exhibits on the whaling city of New London. They also maintain local lighthouses and have collections on them. Friendly and helpful docent will give you a personal tour or tell you whatever piece of history you are interested in hearing about. Beautiful granite building designed by Robert Mills.”

“There are two parts to the Connecticut College Arboretum: the Williams Street entrance leads to beautiful, sculpted trails with labeled trees and plants. The lower Arbo (entrance by the Conn College Athletic Center) is more wild with longer trails that go out to Mamakoke Island Conservation Area. We highly recommend both.”

“This short little historic register listed street is where all the sea captains built their greek revival houses. Grab a coffee at the Wash (Washington Street coffee house) and take a stroll down this street for a walk back in time. Cut across the municipal parking lot and keep walking on Bank street to check out galleries, museums or grab a treat from Sweeties.”
