Rafting
“This is such a great experience and loads of fun. Tongariro River Rafting has got what it takes to make this an amazing day. The guides will make sure your experience is personal. Tongariro River Rafting also does some great conservation work involving Whio or Blue Duck. For an 'elevated' experience choose the 'Access 10' trip. For the experienced fly-fisherman this company does amazing fly-fishing expeditions for a day. ”

“Walk in the magnificent forest of Lake Rotopounamu to the sounds of birds and the views of this crater lake. Rotopounamu means “Lake Greenstone” in Maori and you’ll see why when you lay your eyes on the beautiful green hues of the water. The 2-hour loop walk around the lake takes you through forest to three beaches alongside the lake. Location: 12km from Turangi. Find the walk and car park signposted about 8km along State Highway 47.”

“This is considered one of New Zealand's most popular day hikes. From us it is only a 15 minute drive to the Ketetahi car parkpark where the track begins. Hike 19km through dramatic volcanic landscapes complete with steaming vents, volcanic cones and emerald-coloured lakes. A certain level of fitness is required. Be aware of the forever changing weather in this alpine terrain and make sure to carefully check the weather forecast.”

“The Tongariro River is a river in the North Island of New Zealand. The part of the Waikato River from the Waihohonu Stream, down to Lake Taupo, was formally named the Tongariro River in 1945. Worlds best trout fishing, mountain biking and hiking. ”

“The Tama Lakes Well, this is the Tongariro National Park! There’s a lot of hikes! The next unmissable hike on our list is to the Tama Lakes. It has views that rival that of the Tongariro Crossing except this hike is 5-6 hours return and has a lot less “logistics” to work out in terms of transport. Hike over tussock lands to some vibrant lakes with the backdrop of the mighty Mt Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom) and Mt Ruapehu. Location: Start from the Taranaki Falls track accessed from Whakapapa Village. There is a side track clearly signposted just above Taranaki Falls.”

“The iconic Tongariro Alpine Crossing is regarded as the best one-day trek in New Zealand and one of the top 10 single-day treks in the world. Our lodge is based about 20 minutes' drive to the start of the Crossing. At 19.4 km, the Crossing passes over the volcanic terrain of the multi-cratered active volcano of Mt Tongariro, passing the eastern base of Mt Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom from The Lord of the Rings) before descending to the Emerald and Blue Lakes. As the nearest village to the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, National Park is the ideal base for this world-famous walk.”
