“Sawgrass Lake Park, a 400-acre park located in Pinellas County, was established for the public to experience and learn about one of the Gulf Coast of Florida’s largest maple swamps. Designed to allow people to walk through the swamp, the park features an elevated mile-long boardwalk and half-mile dirt trail that presents fantastic opportunities to spot birds and wildlife in their natural habitats, including alligators and turtles. During the spring and fall, thousands of birds migrate through the park and attract bird-watchers from all over the world. The boardwalk has several observation towers from which birds and wildlife can be spotted, as well as a modern education center, restrooms, and one picnic area with a grill that can be used on a first come, first served basis.  ”

“All of our recommendations on this guidebook are those that are walkable from the rental. 1.5 mile walk from the rental. A playground for kids, but also the start of the waterfront walkway/bikeway that will take you all the way downtown along the bayfront. Once you reach North Shore Blvd, there are many other parks to enjoy-- LOTS of greenspace on the water, one of St. Pete's many perks. A great run route that can be 3-10 mile round trip from the rental.”

“Native indians first lived in this area and portions of their villages remain. Throughout the park you will find educational signage, where you can learn more about Maximo Park's history and archaeology. Some of these signs feature paintings, by local artist Hermann Trappman, depicting the natural history of the area.”
