The chalet is situated on a hillside with a sea view. It is on its own section and a comfortable distance from neighbours in a quiet area. It has a comfortable queen size bed with good bed linen. The single bed is also comfortable with good linen. I have ticked kitchen but that consists of gas fridge and barbecue with side burner for your morning coffee. The bathroom is al fresco with cold shower but there are solar showers which can be used. Heating is hot water bottles and insulation.
The trip is by ferry on Belaire three times a week from Pier 3 downtown Auckland. Wednesday morning 10 am, Friday evening 6.30 pm and Sunday afternoon 2.30 pm in the winter and 4.30 pm in summer. You will be met at Rakino wharf . Search Belaire Rakino for times. Holidays tend to have extra sailings.
A friendly island 11 miles from Auckland but a world away. Be prepared to walk. The locals are friendly with lifts when they are around. Swimming good and fishing can be a possibility.
Rakino Island – the Jewel in the Gulf
Rakino is a small, peaceful Island in the Hauraki Gulf, approximately 45 minutes from Auckland by ferry. It offers a serene setting with amazing views, nice walks and safe swimming.
The Bach in Woody Bay is well set up with solar power and water. A short walk down the hill will find you at private swimming bays. The amazing views from the Bach, span from Rangitoto to Kawau Island and beyond. The sunsets are spectacular and it is a very private setting.
Rakino has many small and sheltered bays, with safe swimming, which are easily within walking distance and offer spots for fishing and snorkeling. The Island is well known for its small and friendly community as well as a visiting place for boats.
If you are looking for somewhere to really unwind, away from the hustle and bustle, to get in touch with nature then this is the place. The Bach is surrounded by native birds which offer beautiful song. Including Tui’s, Bellbirds, Wood Pigeons, Banded Rail, Quail, as well as seabirds and many more.
With a modern kitchen, many hours can be spent dining on the large deck while soaking up the view and watching the world go by.
We had a wonderful time in Rakino Island. Pat was lovely and friendly, told us all about the house and around. We were very impressed by the batch, super upmarket : comfy bed, stunning views, well equipped, not to mentioned the sunny deck. Highly recommended for a romantic gateway :)
We had a wonderful stay in this well appointed and comfortable bach. The view is very special with easy access to a couple of lovely beaches. Highly recommend it.
