“Vecāķi is a Northern District neighbourhood in Riga, the capital of Latvia. It is one of Riga's neighborhoods lying on the shores of Gulf of Riga, Baltic Sea. Westward Vecāķi is bordered by Vecdaugava – a partial oxbow lake (a dead-end fork of River Daugava that hasn't been cut off from it completely.) Thus Vecāķi offers both freshwater and brackish water bathing places, with the former having a higher water temperature come summer due to the smaller volume of Vecdaugava.”

Sitio histórico
“This gateway is the only remaining gate of the Riga city wall. Walking down this street you will also see the only remaining section of the city wall. The buildings, opposite this section of the wall, were originally housing for the city garrison. By the 1850s, the city wall was militarily outdated and the decision to take down changed the city. The little river running around the oldtown is where the original city mote was located. Also you will find that the oldtown is more-or-less surrounded by a park, where the city wall once stood. The bricks and debris of the old city wall were pilled in one place creating the "Bastejkalns" hill in the park. ”
