5 minutes from anywhere in Presidio, La Casita sits on 5 acres bound by the City on the North and the defunct railroad tracks on the south. Two other residences on property, this is a very private little estate. A cute little piece of history!
According to Mrs Ornelas, this house was built by her husband's, Tom, grandfather, Pedro Baeza, around the 1890's. It features the original roof/ceiling made of cotton wood beams, wood slats and adobe, called "viga and lata" in Spanish. It has been remodeled recently to convey more of a feeling of a hotel room of the 1890's. It sits on a 5 acre wooded estate, full of birds and small animals, has a view of the mountains in Mexico and spectacular sunrises.
We know everyone in the neighborhood. It sits down along a the strip of small estates know locally as the "ranchitos".
Very nice house. It's spacious and clean. It's in an area where there isn'tmuch to do, but we just needed it for one night while traveling trough Big Bend and we liked staying in the Casita. Todd was a very good host. He was very helpful with directions and diningsuggestions.
Todd was great. The casita was clean, cool and comfortable. It's right in the center of town, but away from everything. Definitely the best ace to stay in Presidio. Todd was also great at keeping in touch and accommodating. I highly recommend it.
Friendly host. Good location. Will definitely board 3 guests. All expectations met. Will stay there again.
Friendly Host. Knowledgable with local history. Spacious shower. Helpful selling us a Mexican insurance though his insurance company.
My wife and I and our adult daughter stayed three nights here and will definitely return when we make it back to the area. It is very peaceful. The bed is very comfortable. Also a great place to explore Big Bend Ranch State Park from. The park is just as amazing as the national park. We did not make it to Ojinaga Mexico this time but Todd gave us good advice on where to eat down there. Our first night there it snowed 3 or 4 inches which I think is unusual this far south in Texas. We took a walk around the neighborhood to check out the snow and his neighbors were all very friendly. Even though it was really cold outside, we stayed very warm inside.
In a word, the stay was unique. The property is on the outskirts but centrally located. Todd was out of town but had the property ready for our arrival. It's a beautiful and comfortable turn-of-the-20th century adobe. The area is quite but still close to everything. Todd is friendly and willing to give advice on the area, its offerings, and crossing to Ojinaga. The bed is awesome, and it has to be the best night's sleep in Presidio.
Todd's place is an oasis in the harsh chihuahuan desert. If you are wanting to explore the big bend ranch state park, this is the perfect place to stay. Todd was a great host, and if I happen to ever be in presidio again that's where I want to stay. Thanks Todd!
Our stay was great. The place was clean and warm and the bed was very comfortable. Todd was also very hospitable, we will be staying again if we come through the area again.
