“This is a free visitors centre with an excellent display of ironworks. The most famous of which is the Knife Angel. A stunning sculpture made from amnesty weapons. Also a great cafe.”

“Amazing and very cheap (entry is free) Not only is there an iron safari park but also living birds of prey centre, a nice café, demonstrations and lots of potential shopping from the lowest to the largest budget. We have been very impressed with the place and the events they put on each time we have been.”

History Museum
“5* Great place to visit if you interested in coal mining history. Entry is free (although for some strange reason there is a parking charge) Take the guided tour which goes down an original mineshaft in a original lift. The tours are conducted by ex-miners who tell great stories but also capture what life was like. Also take in the multi-media tour & visit the museum. The whole visit can take between 3-4 hours (great on a wet day).”

“If you are interested in red kites then this is the place for you. Just 40 minutes drive away from Tregaron. Everyday this official red kite feeding station puts out feed for the red kites. The spectacle of watching these magnificent birds feeding up close from their hide is breathtaking. One not to be missed.”

Mirador
“Hay Bluff is a popular walk, as is Twmpa (also known as Lord Hereford's Knob), both really achievable mountain peaks giving incredible views. Take the route from the lower car park for a steeper climb, or go up to the very top car park before it heads back downwards towards Llanthony and park here for a more gentle ascent or to go up Twmpa. ”

“Lovely drive up over the black mountains to the ancient priory at Llantony. Small cafe. Search Gospel Pass, the highest road pass in Wales. Start just outside Hay on Wye. Follow signs for Capel le fin. Not for the feint hearted though as narrow roads. Beautiful views over the black mountains and Hay Bluff. Carry on to Pandy and stop at St Martins Church, the most crooked church in Great Britain, at Cwmyoy. Good walking area.”
