“Want to cook something up the french way ? Or just pick up cheese, delicatessen and wine ? This is the place you want to go ! Very good products, a bit pricy but it's worth it. You may also want to go there to bring back some local products ;) They also make great brunches on saturday !”

“El Tast is the only place in the city that carries selections from every brewery in the Paris area. That and they have a knockout selection of Spanish ham to go with them. The space is fairly large and airy, but with a lovely laid-back atmosphere. Also, they serve an excellent paella on the first Saturday of the month. The Almussafes spicy sausage sandwich is always a favorite. I try to make beer deliveries there around lunchtime so I can get one for the road.”

Tienda gourmet
“It’s so hard to choose among the Sicilian treasures sold in this tiny specialty shop: olive oils, smoked fish, anchovies. Sometimes after I’m done shopping I stay for an aperitivo. It’s just like Sicily: only the bay laurels and Barbary fig trees are missing. I love their Bianca olive oil: It’s light, delicate, and has a taste of lemon. Add some olives, fennel seeds, and red pepper and it’s delicious.”

“Florence Kahn’s Yiddish deli has one of the nicest façades in the Marais, made of blue and white mosaic. Inside, everything is homemade every day. You’ll find poultry liver pâté and smoked fish, delicate cold meats, excellent cheesecake, rich sandwiches, and onion rolls ready to be stuffed at home. Seek out the bags of ferfelis on the shelves. It’s homemade Yiddish pasta that’s roasted twice in an oven, giving it a very special taste.”
