“Mevagissey is an attractive old town which was once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery and which still boasts a working harbour, with a few dozen small fishing boats. It has a tradition of boat building dating back to 1745. Many of the old buildings, constructed of cob and slate, bear testimony to a time when the large shoals of pilchards were the livelihood of the whole village. Fishing trips can be taken from the harbour and there is a ferry to the nearby port of Fowey. There is a car park on the quay but the narrow streets can be difficult to negotiate and are often full of pedestrians. Best to park in the first carpark you come to which is on the left handside before you enter Mevagissey”

“Quirky local pub, landlord is a forager and brilliant cook ( you need to check as some days they don't have food on) Some days there's home made bread or pasties for sale at the bar some days there's lobster and fresh scallops on the menu ... just depends on mood and availability! - it's very popular with locals and welcoming to visitors. Doesn't look promising from outside but worth pressing on through the door ”

“She Sells is a newly established café that has firmly planted itsself in Mevagissey's community. It sells delicious crepes and cakes along with Icecreams. Accompained by Tea and Coffee. All this can be enjoyed with a stunning view of the harbour through two sets of sliding doors. A very nice place to enjoy the atmosphere and refresh yourself. ”
