Lugares para hospedarse en Loweswater
Little Swinside Cottage has an idyllic hillside setting and superb views stretching from the Vale of Lorton to the Scottish mountains. Wonderful walking at all levels, mountain biking in Whinlatter, dog friendly, hot tub available, good wifi, log burner, very peaceful, Keswick 8 miles.
Little Swinside Cottage is one of 3 cottages at High Swinside perched on the slopes of Swinside fell overlooking the peaceful Lorton Valley. The Vale of Lorton is definitely one of the Lake District's hidden gems. Little Swinside is a converted former barn attached to High Swinside Farm. Some of the rooms have lovely oak beams and other original features. The cottage is centrally heated and very snug! On the ground floor of the cottage there is a patio room with its own terrace where you'll find table and chairs for enjoying the view or eating al fresco. The patio room includes a double sofa bed that can be used for a child or friend to sleep in if you wish (for a small extra charge). Most of the rest of the cottage accommodation is upstairs. The double bedroom is beamed and again has lovely views; the bed has a comfortable pocket-sprung mattress. The bathroom with bath and 'shower over' is just next door, while the sitting/dining room and kitchen lie beyond. The sitting room has a comfortable sofa, wood burning stove, tv/dvd, and a dining area looking out into the valley. The galley kitchen is well-equipped with stove, slow cooker, fridge, microwave, mixer. Guests also have access to a washing machine, tumbler drier, and freezer if they need (there is a small charge made for using the tumbler drier).
Lorton is a serene and unspoilt Lakeland valley that has remained largely off the beaten track despite its charm and proximity to Keswick and Cockermouth. The walking is excellent - with open fell access on the high Grasmoor fells behind the house, and beautiful walks at all levels throughout the Vale. See the captions under the photos for more idea of how much there is to do and see here, or if you search 'high swinside diana' you can see more walking and activities information on my site.

The Barn is a beautifully refurbished retreat in a quiet corner of the Lake District National Park. Built in c.1870 as part of How Farm, The Barn is a very comfortable self-contained space which sleeps two adults and two children. It has a small garden, unique open living space incorporating the kitchen and lounge, lobby, shower room and large bedroom. The Barn is in a countryside location yet gives easy access to all the North West Lakes and the lesser known but very scenic West Coast.

The layout is all on one level with an open plan living area which incorporates a well equipped kitchen, large sofa and TV; a shower room; a lobby where there is a washer and dryer; and a large bedroom with a king sized bed and a double sofa bed suitable for two children. There is also a small drying area/space for outdoor gear and a lockable bike store. Though The Barn is the ideal place to recharge your batteries the beautiful market town of Cockermouth is only 3 miles drive away and Keswick is 20 minutes drive away. Both have a good variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. The Barn is well placed to access Buttermere, Crummock Water and Ennerdale, to name just a few of the beautiful local attractions and the stunning West Coast. A hidden gem in the lake district national park, on site pub, static caravan site, pod, walking, fishing, climbing, all out door pursuits.
    Sorry strictly no pets!
This is possibly the quietest hidden vally in the western lake district once you have visited the area you will return Keswisk...8 miles Buttermere...8 miles Borrowdale...12 miles

    Low Lorton, Inglaterra, Reino Unido

The Vale of Lorton is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of the Lakes, ranging from the flat farmland and Gem town of Cockermouth at one end to the rugged mountains and Buttermere at the other. The tranquil setting of The Spinney, above the River Cocker, with spectacular views over to Whinlatter, is an ideal location to explore the north western fells, lakes, towns and coast. In two acres of mature trees, gardens and river frontage, there’s an abundance of wildlife all year round.
The Spinney, a self-contained cottage style annexe of the main house, together form a 200 year old property built into the fellside above the River Cocker. The house was originally a painting house for a local artist. Through the stone pillars down the gravel drive, a private parking area for The Spinney is adjacent to the property. A few stone steps down to the south facing French doors is where you enter into the open plan living/dining space – the kitchen with its lovely window seat and the relaxing seating area with the original sandstone fireplace and wood burning stove. Up the stairs off the landing there’s a double bedroom with king-size bed and beautiful views across the valley. A split level bathroom and single bedroom complete the upstairs area. The gardens have colour across the seasons. In spring there are thousands of daffodils and bluebells to complement the rhododendrons and azaleas with other colourful blooms flowering throughout the year. During the day there’s invariably something going on in terms of gardening, renovation or general maintenance but we try to be discrete. Red squirrels, hares, and deer are regularly seen along with a plethora of garden birds, pheasants, buzzards, ducks and herons. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you can hear the birds sing, the breeze in the trees, the sheep murmuring and the river gurgling where you can fish or just sit in peaceful seclusion.
Gateway to the north western Lake District, Lorton has a village shop with excellent coffee, essentials and craft gifts. There's a pub and a thriving village hall with different activities most days. There's two all weather tennis courts and we're on a C2C route.

Toddell Barn forms part of our traditional Lakeland longhouse farm, built in approximately 1710. Toddell Barn sits within approximately 7 acres of agricultural land that helps attract a wide variety of wildlife. Toddell Barn is located in the hamlet of Brandlingill (2 miles south of Cockermouth) and is within the northern boundary of The Lake District National Park, categorised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
Toddell Barn, part of a traditional Cumbrian Longhouse is found in the quiet hamlet of Brandlingill where it looks out directly onto Mosser Fell, beautiful farmland and into the distance onto the majestic might of Skiddaw. Toddell barn has been tastefully renovated ensuring that original features such as the oak beams have been retained whilst all modern-day comforts have been added. The end product being a beautiful hidden getaway combining luxury with a piece of history. The barn is accessed by going up a short flight of stairs up to a light, fully beamed and open plan sitting and kitchen/dining area which acts as a fantastic communal area. The sitting area has a comfortable sofa that be used as a double sofa bed if need be, TV/DVD player and a dining area that looks out onto fields and fells. There are plenty of local area maps, books and board games for you to borrow during your stay. Recommendations for local walking and cycle routes as well as restaurants, cafes and inns and visitor attractions can all be found in the visitor file. The kitchen is very well equipped with cooker, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine plus much more. The double bedroom which is also beamed is found through the sitting area and features a comfortable pocket sprung mattress along with a generous wardrobe and dressing table with further views out onto the Vale of Lorton. A delightful shower room is attached with all modern facilities. Guests have access to a downstairs utility room where there is a washing machine (washing liquid and conditioner provided) and a drying room. Iron, ironing board, hooks for hanging outdoor coats and a warm place to dry off those muddy walking boots are all found here. Guests also have access to a private walled garden, with table and chairs which surrounded by deep well-established flower borders. From the wildlife friendly garden, you will have views out over the meadow and beyond to the fells, the meadow and woodland being home to roe deer, hares, badgers, red squirrels and a variety of birds including barn owls. Listen carefully and you`ll hear the resident woodpeckers, cuckoos and owls. You will also see free ranging hens and our beautiful Aylesbury ducks out in the field (fresh eggs are usually available). Please do not smoke or vape in the Barn. You may however smoke or vape in the walled garden where you`ll find a flower pot for those cigarette ends. Car Parking space is found adjacent to the end of the property and should you wish to bring bikes or canoes secure storage can be provided. Please do not use our neighbours` drive as a turning place; please reverse in to the designated parking space so that you can pull out forwards on to the lane and drive past the Barn and the house. We supply most of the basics you will need such as washing up liquid, shampoo and conditioner toilet rolls, towels, tea and coffee to name just a few – of course if there is anything you need us to get for your arrival then please do let us know.
Brandlingill is a hidden gem of a Lakeland hamlet that despite being off the beaten track lies in close proximity to both the busy market towns Cockermouth and Keswick. Walking is offered in all directions whether it be a river walk into Cockermouth, strolling and meandering through quiet country lanes and tracks or onto the delights of Mosser fell and beyond there is something for everyone. If one is feeling energetic one can walk to Lorton or Loweswater where one can then feast at either The Wheatsheaf or The Kirkstile Inn – said to be one of the finest pubs in the Lakes or alternatively take a dip in Crummock Water. As we are situated within easy reach of the quieter Western fells, Crummock, Loweswater and Buttermere are only a few miles away. For the more adventurous Go Ape and mountain biking is available in Whinlatter Forest, a Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine and boating at Derwent water. There are several Supermarkets in Cockermouth, Sainsburys, Lidl and Aldi (open 7.30 – 9 Mon to Sat and 11 – 5 on Sun) plus independent butchers, greengrocer, bakeries, fishmonger and pharmacies for any supplies you not brought with you. The nearest garage is on the A66/A5086 roundabout – but beware as it is expensive.

Full of character and carrying a 4-Star Self-Catering rating from VisitBritain for several years, The Smithy is a very comfortable conversion of the original blacksmith’s forge, built in the late 19th century.
Located in the north-west of Cumbria’s Lake District National Park, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Smithy is 3 miles due south of the old market town of Cockermouth. In its position halfway between Cockermouth and Loweswater, it enjoys an environment so quiet that it is rare to hear anything other than the sounds of nature. At night, a myriad of bright stars stand out against its dark skies.
We chose to live here, on a small lane between Brandlingill and Mosser, because of its quiet location next to Sandy Beck. If you enjoy walking, we are near the western Lakeland fells - Mosser Fell, Smithy Fell, Fellbarrow, Loweswater Fell, Darling Fell and others. There are various local walks from The Smithy, taking you to the Lorton valley, Loweswater and to Cockermouth, following the river path.

Lamplugh is a picturesque cluster of homes and farms surrounding the Grade II* listed church of ‘St Michaels and All Angels’. There are many quiet lanes, by-ways, woods, fells and river sides to explore straight out of The Loft's door. This area of outstanding natural beauty boasts Loweswater (the Lake) about 2.5 miles away, Ennerdale Water and Crummock Water, both about 4 miles away, and Buttermere, Bassenthwaite and Wastwater just beyond. Here you can enjoy a leisurely lakeside stroll or perhaps a more energetic walk over the local fells, so beloved by Alfred Wainwright, who wrote the famous Wainwright Guides to The Lake District. For those who prefer to see the landscape on horseback, pony trekking is available at Bradley’s Riding Centre on Cold Fell above Ennerdale. Boat hire is available at Crummock (National Trust) and on Derwentwater at nearby Keswick. Keen climbers will find many good outdoor rock faces in West Cumbria. Honister Slate Mine offers a guided Via Ferrata, along the old route that miners would have used. There are also two good climbing centres in Keswick which cater for adults & children and offer guided outdoor climbing & ghyll scrambling (weather permitting) and a ‘Clip and Climb Centre’ in Maryport. As well as the delightful rural Inns and Pubs, the local towns of Cockermouth, Whitehaven, Workington and Maryport and further afield, Penrith and Carlisle, provide shops, supermarkets, theatres, cinemas, night clubs, cafes, restaurants, museums, art galleries and other Visitor Attractions.

Crummock Water & Buttermere a short drive away; also great access to coast. A cosy and comfortable home in an ideal spot, providing a super base for your NW Lake District experience.
A comfortable and warm, self-contained terraced house which sleeps four people. Tidy and clean, providing accommodation for those wishing to explore the secret North West Lakes. Very easy access from A5086. Entrance hall leading to lounge with seating and electric fire. Television. Free Wifi access with decent speed; due to our location some mobile phone networks can receive patchy reception here. The main source of heating in the house is storage heating which keeps the house warm and cosy. Ready supply of hot water. Leading to kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave oven, washing machine, fridge and table with chairs. Kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery etc. Iron and ironing board provided. Bedroom one has a double bed with wardrobe and drawers, bedroom two has bunk beds and wardrobe. Bedding is provided. Bathroom with electric shower and bath. Towels are provided. The steps to the first floor are pretty steep, maybe not very suitable for elderly visitors and tiny children. Please take care on the stairs. Space for several bicycles to be kept secure in the long entrance hallway. There’s no electric laundry dryer at the house, however there is a Sheila Maid in the hallway.
A lovely countryside location conveniently close to a main arterial route and right at the entrance to The Lake District National Park, England's greatest adventure playground. From the house you have easy access into The NW Lakes, Loweswater, Crummock Lake, Buttermere & Ennerdale. There is plenty of low-level walking too around these parts if you do not fancy the fells and mountains. Cogra Moss is only a mile away, a super walk around the old reservoir...approx 3 miles in distance. Trout fishing available here too, buy your day permit at Inglewood camp site in the village during season April-October. Walk around Loweswater Lake, through Holme Wood where there is a small pebble beach and private bothy. The bluebells are lovely here in May; if you're lucky you may spot a red squirrel. From here to Loweswater village where you can find the famous Kirkstile Inn which serves lovely food and locally brewed ales. Crummock Water follows next where you can find next to Brackenthwaite How the Rannerdale Knott bluebells again flowering during May. From here you can travel to Buttermere Lake and village; a flat walk around the whole lake is 5 miles and good for adults and children alike. There is a good tea shop here serving snacks and home-made ice-cream. From here on to Keswick via either Newlands Pass or Honister Pass. If you choose to go via Honister then be sure to call at the Honister Slate mines. Keswick is a popular tourist town and has a market on Thursday and Saturday. Derwentwater is good for boating, the parks are delightful for children with pitch and putt, grass tennis courts, bowling and lovely play area. The newly re-furbished museum is worth checking out and the swimming spa is great for children and adults alike on a wet day. There is a theatre and cinema as well; plenty of places to eat and Booth's supermarket. From here you can travel via Whinlatter Pass where there is a visitor's centre with Go Ape, forest trails, and biking. The Lake District Wildlife Park (next to Armathwaite Hall) at Bassenthwaite is a fun day out; and whilst there why not go and see the wild ospreys or visit the new Lakes Distillery at Setmurthy, Bassenthwaite. Cockermouth is an historic market town, Wordsworth House is a must see attraction; William Wordsworth was born and grew up here. There are many bars and restaurants here, plus lots of independant shops. The Solway Coast approx 10 miles North West is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has a very pretty coastline. The village of Allonby and slightly further along the coast, town of Silloth are worth a visit; you often find that the weather is better along the coast if it is a little wet inland. Children may like to visit Stanwix Park at Silloth for swimming and entertainment, you can purchase a day pass. St Bees with it's fine beach (and Hartley's ice-cream shop!), historic Roman port Ravenglass & Muncaster Castle Owl Sanctuary further down our pretty Cumbrian coastline should also be on your itinerary; the Ratty Railway at Eskdale cannot be missed. This trip takes you from Ravenglass to Boot on a narrow gauge railway and is certain to make your holiday! The little trains run several times a day and you can just turn up at the station for a ticket. Closer to home is Bradley's Riding Centre at Kinniside Nr Ennerdale Bridge O/S ref 056144 where you can have half hour or full day treks on their magnificent fell ponies accompanied by instructors. Ennerdale Lake has forest walks and mountain biking, and is only 3 miles from the cottage. There are 2 or 3 pubs in Ennerdale Bridge village to choose from: The Fox & Hounds and Shepherds Arms, both good food. The newly opened visitors centre at Ennerdale Bridge offers a small shop and cafe (3 miles). The National Park here is known as Wild Ennerdale, being allowed to develop with as little interference as possible from farming and man. If you are not exhausted by all of this, then head North to our historic city Carlisle (40 mins away by car) where you can see the famous castle, great shopping, and Hadrian's Wall. Walby Farm Park, Carlisle is a super day out for children-best UK farm park 2015.

Whiteside Cottage is situated on a 250 acre busy working family run farm in the beautiful valley of Loweswater. We rear both cows and sheep and run a thriving reclamation yard from the farm where many builders and valley residents find local stone for renovating their properties. The cottage has recently been renovated to a high standard with three bedrooms, sleeping up to six people. One bedroom has an en-suite and there is an upstairs bathroom with an over the bath shower.
Located in the Lake District National Park, Whiteside is within easy reach to explore the quieter Western Fells, Crummock Water is one mile away, Loweswater Lake two miles and Buttermere is five miles. For the more adventurous, Go Ape and mountain biking is available in Whinlatter Forest and a Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine in Buttermere. There are woodland and lakeside walks which can be started straight from the property without the need to take your car.
There is a village shop 3 miles away in Lorton with Cockermouth being 6 miles. The town has excellent butchers, fishmongers, fruit and veg shop, wine bars and deli, some lovely boutique shops along with the usual supermarket sites. The award winning Kirkstile Inn is one mile away. Set under Melbreak with stunning views from the beer garden, the pub offers an excellent menu for those who have been out walking and for those who want to relax with friends in front of an open fire. The pub has a micro-brewery at its site in South Lakes and brews many of its own beers including the renowned Loweswater Gold. The Wheatsheaf pub is three miles away in Lorton and offers Jennings beer. A wide selection of excellent food awaits you here, including fish nights each week to enjoy in front of an open fire. We are one mile from New House Tea Rooms and wedding facilities.

18th century hill farmhouse with character and superb views stretching from the Vale of Lorton to the Scottish mountains. Wonderful walking at all levels, mountain biking in Whinlatter, dog friendly, good wifi, very peaceful, & there's a hot tub available! Keswick 8 miles
The Vale of Lorton is definitely one of the Lake District's hidden gems - only 8 miles from Keswick yet so peaceful and off the beaten track. There are superb walks here at all levels - from the high peaks of the Grasmoor and Buttermere fells to beautiful lake shore paths. Meanwhile, the trails in nearby Whinlatter put the 'mountain' back into mountain biking! The Farmhouse is the largest of the 3 High Swinside holiday cottages. It has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 9 people in 8-9 separate beds (you tell me in advance how you want them made up). Built in 1741, most of its rooms have lovely oak beams and other original features. From the entrance hall with boot racks and coat hooks you enter the dining room with a pine dresser and long farmhouse table. The kitchen is open plan to the dining room and is well-equipped with cooker, hob, microwave, slow cooker, mixer, washing machine, dish washer & fridge/freezer. (Additional shared laundry facilities include a tumbler drier & there's large chest freezer available if needed). The sitting room has 3 comfortable 3-seater sofas arranged around a tv/dvd and wood burning stove (big basket of logs provided). From the front-facing window there is a stunning view across the Lorton valley to Low Fell. One of the twin bedrooms is also on this floor and has access down two steps to the kitchen, and through the kitchen to a shower room with an electric shower. Upstairs there are three more bedrooms. Two of them are large front-facing bedrooms with beautiful views: a family room with a superking & a single bed (which can also be made up as 3 singles); and double bedroom with a superking bed and an ensuite shower room. The third bedroom on this floor is a pretty twin room with a sloping ceiling and a little cottage window facing towards the fellside behind the house. All the beds in the Farmhouse have comfortable pocket-sprung mattresses. The family bathroom with its sloping beamed ceiling has a bath with a hand-held shower attachment.
See the captions under the photos for more idea of how much there is to do and see here, or if you search: high swinside diana you can see more walking and activities information on my site.

Murton Farm was built in 1728, and sits with three adjoining converted barns which once were all part of a working farm. With all the charm of a cosy Lakeland cottage, you will struggle to find a straight line anywhere from floor to ceiling. The spacious garden is warm and sunny with sunsets all year around, and has a culverted stream running through it. All bedrooms are spacious and light. Both the snug and dining room are fitted with log burners, and the traditional kitchen faces the garden.
The house is fully centrally heated, and has a combi boiler to set manually for instant hot water for showers and baths with a full house. All downstairs rooms are cosy with low beams, so mind your head in places! The kitchen is simple and traditional, with a garden view and small breakfast table. It has an electric hob and single oven / grill, a single under counter fridge and single freezer in the pantry. It does not have a microwave. There is a washer/ tumble dryer for use also in the pantry / bootroom along with a sheila maid to hang wet clothes from. Plug sockets are sparse in bedrooms, so please bring a battery powered reading / book light if you would like to read in bed without the main light on. Furniture is mostly old family pieces which show visble signs of age and wear over the years, but for us represent many happy family memories.
Lamplugh is ideally located for the Central and Western lakes and fells, with Ennerdale, Cogra Moss, Loweswater, Crummock and Buttermere all within 20 minutes or less from home. Stunning beaches at St Bees are less than 20 minutes awaytoo, aswell as Drigg further west. With Cockermouth 7 miles away and Keswick 11 miles visitors can enjoy a range of bistros, bakeries, shops and a wonderful selection of pubs and eateries, as well as lively local markets and Theatre on the Lake. Local rural pubs are The Stork at Rowrah, The Fox and Hound at Ennerdale Bridge, The Royal Yew at Dean which is also a gastro style pub. The Kirkstile Inn is a must after a walk around Crummock Water with great views and food, and The Bridge at Buttermere is also a great place for Sunday lunch, with an excellent vegetarian options.

Loweswater is a beautifully spacious 4 Star apartment. Enjoy a relaxing and peaceful stay in this real home in the Lake District. A tranquil village location close to Loweswater and just a short drive to the Georgian market town of Cockermouth, where you will find bistro's, independent shops and many attractions.. If you want a relaxing stay in glorious surroundings, then Loweswater apartment is just the place for you. Relax, enjoy yourselves and take in the wonderful views.
Loweswater is a modern and very spacious apartment located within a private Mews in a typically rural Cumbrian village of about 30 homes. There are two working farms within the village, so animals are a feature of life and can often be seen moving along the lanes. Walk from the door, or just take a short drive to enjoy some of the Lake Districts great attractions.
The village is very peaceful and tranquillity reigns. The nearest lake is 5 minutes away by car, And Crummock and Buttermere are a very short drive away. The pretty Georgian market town of Cockermouth is just 10 minutes away. Local eateries are very well thought of and can provide an alternative to home cooking should you feel weary after a long day on the Fells. Lots of recommendations in the information folder.

Ennerdale is a very large 2 bedroom apartment with lots of open space only minutes from the Lake District National Park. It is set over 2 floors with the main living area on the ground floor & the huge basement conversion hiding the sauna, games room & utility space. The living area comprises of a large open living room which leads to the kitchen & the 2 ensuite bedrooms & bunk beds. The shared courtyard is accessed through the living room or from the rear of the property.
The place: Ennerdale apartment is a 2 storey flat. The entrance foyer leads to a large, open living room which comfortably seats 8 people, a work space, lots of books, board games, jigsaws a DVD player, tv screen and a nice big table to play your games on. The living room opens out onto the courtyard through 2 double doors. This is wonderful in summer as the courtyard is south facing and gets all the sun that is going. The kitchen has ample counter space and a table that seats 6 with ease. The kitchen has a DeLonghi espresso machine and all the other amenities you'd find in your kitchen at home. We do keep condiments at Ennerdale for guests to use as well as having a guests' food cupboard, this has food staples in for you to use. We do appreciate it if you can replace any of the food you use for the next guests. You'll find things like tinned tomatoes, jam, honey, oats, rice, pasta and beans in here as well as some frozen bread in the freezer - There's nothing worse than arriving somewhere late and not being able to have a mug of tea or a quick bite to eat! Both bedrooms are located on this floor also, the first bedroom has a bunkbed in the entrance alcove with the ensuite bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) opposite. The bedroom itself has a double bed. There is a curtain separating the bunks and main bedroom. The second bedroom is further down the hall, it also has an ensuite (toilet, sink, shower) and 2 single beds. The basement is the surprise of Ennerdale, the wide staircase leads to a utility space (freezer & washing machine). Down here you'll also find another toilet, a sauna with a shower to use just next to it and then the games room. In the games room we have a dart board and multi games table with snooker and air hockey. Parking: Ennerdale apartment has 1 specific parking space with another for guests. There is also some off road parking in the village but you may need to walk a few minutes to get the flat. The courtyard is shared with 3 other flats, it has 2 picnic benches, lots of flowers and as we mentioned gets all the sun going! Please note that Ennerdale apartment is new to the letting market for us and has only been on here since August 2019. We'd appreciate any feedback you have as we would love to make it a space that is easy to use and feels relaxing. (please note we don't have a carbon monoxide detector because the flat runs entirely on electricity)
Mockerkin is a very small village on the west side of the Lake District. You're literally a stones through from the National Park boundary, it's only a minute drive to Fangs Brow which leads you onto the fells and a mere 5 minutes to Loweswater and the infamous Kirkstile Inn. Not only do you have easy access to the quieter side of the Lake District but it's not from the beach too. The nearest supermarkets are Aldi and Sainsburys in Cockermouth (10 minute drive) and Keswick is a 20-25 minute drive.
