“Situated in Piazza Bra, the amphitheatre of Verona was built in the first half of the 1st century A.D. (between the end of Augustus‘ reign and the beginning of Claudius). “Poet, soldier, hypochondriac and proto-Fascist, Gabriele d’Annunzio (1863–1938) defies easy definition, and so does his estate. Bombastic, extravagant and unsettling, it’s home to every architectural and decorative excess imaginable and the decor helps shed light on the man. In the 1920s d’Annunzio became a strong supporter of Fascism and Mussolini, while his affairs with wealthy women were legendary. The amphitheatre is the first major structure one comes across after entering the estate and was clearly based upon classic models, the architect Maroni even visiting Pompeii for inspiration. Its location, like the other buildings of the Vittoriale undeniably offers a majestic view of the Garda lake, it is still used for performances today (Patty Smith, The National, Buena vista social club)”

Museum
“At the very tip of the Dosso di Lavedo, a wooded promontory on the shores of Lake Como, is the Villa del Balbianello, built in the early 18th century, famous not only for its beauty but also for having hosted many well-known intellectuals in exile during the Italian Risorgimento. Commissioned by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini and built over the remains of an ancient Franciscan monastery (although the facade of the original church is still intact), after the Cardinal’s death it passed down to Count Luigi Porro Lambertenghi. The Count was a very active supporter of the Unification of Italy and turned the villa into a hub for intellectuals who supported the Cause, even hiring the famous author Silvio Pellico as a tutor for his children. The upper floor of Villa Balbianello is dedicated to Guido Monzini, former owner of the villa and leader of the first Italian expedition to Mount Everest. For movie fans - Villa del Balbianello has been used as the setting for several movies, including A Month by the Lake, Casino Royale, and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. ”

The Castle of Vezio is certainly one of these: it stands out in the municipality of Perledo on the terraced and sunny slopes on the top of the hill of Varenna. Thanks to its privileged location, in the past the castle of Vezio was used to control the communication routes towards the North.”

Museo de arte
“Attractions, Religious buildings and sites : Da Vincis Last Supper painting in Milan Perhaps one of the most famous paintings in the world, da Vinci’s The Last Supper has been reproduced to death, but no tote bag or mouse pad or even large-scale reproduction can adequately capture the artist’s emotionally charged mural. Unlike frescoes, which are painted on wet plaster and thus must be completed rather quickly, da Vinci used tempera paints on a dry wall after sealing the stone with dried plaster and adding an undercoat of white lead to achieve greater luminosity. It's astonishing and overwhelming – even despite the fact that Jesus's feet were lost in 1652 given some ill-thought-out renovations. ”
