Subterra is a truly unique experience. Thousands of people have visited and toured this one-of-a-kind home over the last 30 years. The underground missile site has a fascinating Cold War history for you to discover. Guests will also be inspired by the story of its transformation from a bunker into a home. Your stay includes a tour, and your hosts encourage you to request an official tour with the Owner, Ed Peden. (If he is unavailable, one of your hosts can provide the tour.)
The underground space spans over 18,000 square feet and the total space is close to 20,000 square feet. The décor throughout is bohemian eclectic. There are large, comfortable rooms and many common areas that you may share. In the Great Room, you can enjoy making music with many kinds of percussive instruments. In the Living Room & Sanctuary, the Owners have brought in symbols from all the world's religious traditions as a gesture of openness, acceptance, and love for all. You'll definitely find a friendly, loving "New Age" vibe at Subterra.
The beautiful property is 33 acres with a pond, a stone circle and a grass airstrip. During the spring, summer and fall, it is a joy to spend time outdoors at the pond, relaxing in the swing, sunbathing on the "Moon Deck," or going for a walk. Going up in the castle tower is fun and worth the views. Please bring your camera.
Subterra Castle is located in the beautiful Flint Hills region in rural Kansas. There are lots of things to do and see within 30 minutes drive, and even more within an hour. In the suite, guests will find an info booklet with suggestions for local activities and places to eat.
