“Raceway Woods is a lovely 122 acre open space tract getting its name from the old race track that once wound around parts of it. The central core of the tract has a fine savannah and mesic woodland with steep banks where pocket seeps trickle down into a clear rippling brook that wanders through several pristine natural areas. This preserve includes a horseback riding area. Most horse trails are natural surface, mowed grass paths. Limestone screenings trails and asphalt bike trails are available in some of the preserves. ”

The property was purchased as two seperate parcels in 2000 and 2001 with grants from IDNR’s Open Lands Trust program at a cost of $4,128,709. The sites 244 acres are partially protected by an IDNR easement. Your adventure begins as you exit the new parking lot located off Boncosky Road in Sleepy Hollow onto one of the gravel trails. Notice the stone council ring to your right. The new pavilion is visible and can be easily accesed from the parking area.
