“An unique castle with water games ideal to visit in the warm summer months. Be prepared for large crowds as it is a popular attraction. “If you have time, do make a trip by car or local bus out to the spectacularly beautiful Lake Wolfgang. If you get off at St. Gilgen you can take the boat over to St. Wolfgang and go up 1.200m on the cable car to the top of the Schafberg from where you will have amazing views. Otherwise just walk along the lake paths. On the way you will pass the smaller sister lake, Fuschl, which is emerald green and a peaceful alternative to the bustle of Wolfgang.”

“Eagle's Nest The road leading from Obersalzberg (formerly Hitler's home and southern headquarters) to the Eagle's Nest parking lot is considered to be a feat of engineering. Perched at 1.834 m (6.017 ft), the building itself was a project of Martin Bormann's and given to Adolf Hitler for his 50th birthday as a teahouse for diplomats. The Eagle's Nest remained unscathed from the bombing of the Allied Forces during WWII. Since 1952 it has been open to the public as a mountain top restaurant with a spectacular view and is accessed only by special mountain buses from Obersalzberg. Due to its high elevation the Eagle's Nest is open in summer only, usually from about mid-May through October. ”

Train
“The SchafbergBahn is the steepest cogwheel railway in Austria. Since 1893 mighty steam locomotives have powered their way from the lake-side base station in St. Wolfgang to the 1783 m high summit of the Schafberg. The SchafbergBahn allows every visitor to conquer the mountain in comfort and style, making the entire journey an unforgettable experience! Trains are in service from May through to the end of September. Once on the top, magnificent Alpine views and warm Austrian hospitality beckon. Visit the Hotel Schafsbergspitze, Austria’s oldest mountain inn, originally dating from 1862. From the top you may see numerous Alpine lakes and the Dachstein glacier. In 2012 the Hotel Schafbergspitz”
