  • Thank you to Ann for letting us stay in your beautiful and cosy holiday home. We had an amazing time with our two young girls. Lovely home and stunning surroundings. Only a stones throw from the beach too. We will most certainly be coming back. Thank you again.. Ashley, Danny and Maddie. Mark, Stacey and Riley xxxx

  • A wonderful getaway, quiet resort with incredible log cabins in a great location near the coast but with civilisation not too far. Plenty of walks nearby (written up by Ann in an organised folder. It was equipped with everything we could have possibly needed, Ann really has thought of everything. As such we didn't need to contact Ann although she made herself easy to be.

  • Our first stay in Scotland was with Ann’s log cabin. We had no problems getting into the cabin as instructions from Ann was simple and easy. The cabin was…wow :) rustic looking, cozy and very comfy. Definitely as how the pictures showed. When we entered the living room, we joked how men, cigars and whiskey would fit right in place :) We received a welcoming gift each, thank you Ann!! It had an electrical fireplace but that didn’t diminish the atmosphere and ambiance at night (in fact we city girls feels at home with it being a switch off/on thing hee hee). One of the nights we were there, we got our first full moon and clear sky. It was so breathtakingly pretty. Rooms and beds were comfortable and cozy. I have to say the toilet in the room upstairs with the veranda was modernly equipped with that ‘rain effect’ shower head. Kitchen was just right as I was the only one cooking. Appliances was working well and the kitchen was well equipped. The beach wasn’t very far away and we walked down the road to see it. Worth going but visitors not familiar to the beach must read about the tides. All in all, we had a great time exploring Sandyhills and areas around it as well as a great stay in the cabin. A definite recommendation for couples, friends and families.

  • This is a fantastic lodge in an idyllic part of the world. We had a great stay. The house is furnished beautifully and equipped with everything you need. The balcony was lovely to sit on and soak up the calm of the surroundings. Would definitely recommend!

  • What a lovely lodge, it certainly felt like home from home and we were all disappointed to only be staying a couple of nights. we cant wait to go back for longer next time. The immediate area was very quiet and calming and the walks along the beach and cliffs stunning. The communication with Ann was very good. I have already recommended this lodge to some friends.

Dalbeattie is a small town in South West Scotland close to the coast. There are numerous attractive beaches only a short drive away, including the popular sailing village of Kippford. It is on the edge of Dalbeattie Forest and not far from Mabie Forest, both part of the Seven Stanes and very popular for mountain biking. There is a park across the road, very popular with locals and visitors. Dalbeattie is 14 miles west of Dumfries and 6 miles from Castle Douglas.
Newly refurbished 2 bedroomed traditional granite terraced cottage in small town near to the Solway Coast. Garden to rear with outdoor seating areas on the grass and terrace. Double bedroom on ground floor, twin room upstairs with extra pull out bed if required.
The cottage is situated in a fairly quiet neighbourhood, although is on the main road into Dumfries and can be fairly busy (for a small rural town!) just after 5pm. The park is immediately across from the cottage and is very popular with children and adults. There is a duck pond, putting, tennis courts, play equipment and plenty of space to kick a ball. In the summer there are activities held here. Dalbeattie is on the edge of the town wood which is popular with walkers, orienteering and mountain biking. Kippford, Rockcliffe, Sandyhills, Southerness and other small hamlets along the Solway Coast are a short drive and on a clear day the views across to the Northern Lakes are spectacular.
  • Judith's place is great - easy to find and a good base to explore the area. The welcome was warm and friendly, and the flat was clean and tidy. Thanks for letting us stay!

    Robin2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Judith's. It was cozy, clean, and comfortable - easily accommodating all of us (2 adults and two young children). The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots, pans and pretty much anything you'd need to cook your meals there. The location is great for exploring the surrounding area and, if you're traveling with children, especially helpful with the play park across the road. Judith was communicative, friendly, and helpful and it is obvious she takes very good care of this property. If we come back this way again, we will be sure to book here again.

  • Judith met us at the property at agreed time and was a friendly, welcoming host. House was very fresh and clean and in a handy location for our needs

  • lovely comfortable, cosy cottage in a convenient location for exploring the fabulous local area. Extremely clean, well equipped and homely.

    Nicola2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Judith's cottage was a perfect home away from home for our family with two young children (5 years / 18 months). Judith's house was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed to wash and dry clothes. There was an excellent set of information about things to see and do in the local area and region that was expertly organised in to folders. There was a good set of board games. We particularly enjoyed playing Sorry with our eldest. The TV was modern with HDMI input so I was able to play videos from my laptop. We knew there was no wifi before we booked so prepared accordingly We never had any issues with parking and liked that we could walk into the centre of town in 5 minutes. We went to the beach at Rockcliffe a couple of times and enjoyed rock pooling and plodging at low tide. It is 15 minutes by car and has toilets but no shops or amusements to distract ;) Judith was a brilliant host, always friendly and responsive, who made us we could feel at home in her house, but that she was there if we needed her

  • Judith's place in Dalbeattie is a terraced cottage made in stone. Clean, cosy, with a lovely backyard garden and no-problem hosts who accomodated our late arrival. Dalbeattie is a sweet quiet village and there is a good size park just outside the house. There are also basic facilities just a minute away (shop, pub, atm...)

  • I went with family to celebrate New Year, this house was great. We had everything we needed & there was plenty room for us all. The location was excellent within walking distance from local shops, pubs & restaurants. Elizabeth was very welcoming and had left us some party food & milk, which I thought was a lovely touch. Loved this property, would recommend it.

  • This is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of sea, mountains and forests. The cottage is immaculate, spacious and very comfortable with everything you could need. We received a very warm welcome from Jenny, who met us at the door with a bowl of fresh eggs from Kirkennan's own hens! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

  • Fantastic place to stay - very relaxing. David is a very friendly and informative host and even provided some toys and books for our 2 year old.

  • We needed a place to stay to visit relatives in the area. Cowar Cottage was a great base for this. The place was clean and homely and David was very welcoming. He had left a bottle of wine and some biscuits which was a lovely touch. Additionally he knew we were bringing our toddler so had kindly dug out some toys for him to play with which he loved! We would definitely stay again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cowar Cottage to anyone.

Our lovely home is perfectly placed for exploring this beautiful area of Dumfries & Galloway. There are beaches and the forests - an abundance of choice for walking. We have lived and worked across the world and speak some French & Spanish. Your en-suite bedroom is very comfortable and plenty of room for 2 adults. Also a sofa bed available. I am a Pilates teacher and have a beautiful studio in garden and my husband is the chef! We look forward to meeting you.
The bedroom is on the first floor. Stairs are not too steep. There is a kettle for tea/coffee (supplied) in the bedroom. You have an en-suite bathroom. A small dog is welcome. Cyclists are also welcome - there is be a secure space for bikes. Breakfast is included - continental or full Scottish - it's your choice!
A walking mile to the pub on the water. Good pub food and wonderful scenery. Very close to the yacht club in Kippford. Perfect location for regatta week! Three golf courses nearby; Southerness is just 20 minutes away. For cyclists the first of the 7 Stanes is very close.
  • A perfect place for a relaxing break. We loved it here and will definitely be coming back. Suzie's Pilates session was superb and Blyth's Scottish Breakfast is second to none!

  • We had a lovely nights stay at Susie's place. She and her husband were great hosts. Lovely environment both inside and surrounding. We enjoyed our time there. Thanks Susie.

    Alison2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • From the word go Susie and Blythe were the perfect hosts and we felt very welcome and thoroughly spoiled. Their home is beautiful and in lovely surroundings with a delightful garden and nothing was too much trouble to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We always looked forward to the breakfasts in the morning cooked by Blythe who is a fantastic chef! Susie is an excellent Pilates teacher and we really enjoyed attending one of her classes. We were given information on hiring mountain bikes in the area and did the Dalbeattie 7 Stanes. This is not far from Stag Wood and is worth a try even if you haven't done mountain biking before as there are different levels to suit everyone. As we had road bikes with us we also cycled to Castle Douglas, the 'food town' which was just up our street and also to Kirkcudbright the 'artists' town' on the river Dee. The back roads are a delight to cycle on. A coastal path walk to Sandyhills was also a delight although the last bus back to Kippford was quite early so it's better not to leave too late in the day. We ate at the Anchor Hotel in Kippford twice and the food was lovely. For Italian food Luigi's is worth a visit and they have an early bird menu. Anyone who is a nature lover will love it here as there is the possibility of seeing roe deer, red squirrels and numerous birds including nuthatches and woodpeckers. We would not hesitate to recommend Susie's place to family and friends and would love to go back. It was very difficult to leave Elton the rough haired dachshund behind as he was so cute!

    Jackie2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay with Susie and Blythe, both very helpful and welcoming, beautifully clean accommodation, wonderful breakfast with fresh fruit from the garden and all local produce. I thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

    Hannah 2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Susie and Blyth have created a lovely welcoming home in a splendid location. They are still working on it, so in future there will be even more guest facilities. Having said that, we lacked for nothing! They are warm generous and interesting hosts. Blyth does a brilliant breakfast and the wee dog Elton provides great entertainment! It's a great area for visiting heritage sites, walking, and exploring the coast. Our weekend was marred by foul weather but we never found ourselves at a loose end. Previous reviews led us to expect something a bit special here but our expectations were exceeded.

    Mary2017-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • I'm ver used to stay in AirBnb but this was an outstanding experience. Sussie and her husband welcome us very warmly with a cup of tea. They also understand Spanish and are well travelled, I would have loved to exchange more with them. The house is beautiful, warmly decorated, confortable, with a lovely garden and a walk away to the seaside and golf courses. They also enjoy fishing and Susie is a Pilates trainer so spending some days with them is advised. They even drived us to some friends party and in the morning the best scottish breakfast I've tasted was served with beautiful tableware and flowers (fruits, yaourt, different types of homemade bread, warm croissants, eggs, square sausage, black pudding... etc). It´s clear they love welcoming guests and thinking out the best for them.

Birchlea Lodge has 3 bedrooms - 1 double (king) & 2 twin. En-suite shower-room off Master; family bathroom w shower o/bath. Birchlea is within a very attractive small horseshoe-shaped landscaped site, overlooking a pretty lochan (Scottish for large pond!). There are 8 other lodges in Kipp Paddock but each is individually/privately owned. which means it is peaceful. Birchlea is well-placed to catch the sun from morning till evening, with 2 verandas facing towards Screel, one of the largest of the local Galloway hills. Galloway is home to the first 'Dark Sky Park' in the UK and you will see why: the unpolluted night sky is stunning! Kipp Paddock is backed by a birch forest, part of the more extensive Dalbeattie Forest, home to the celebrated 7Stanes mountain-biking trails. There is also a 9-hole golf course across the road. Wildlife which may pop out to see you include red squirrels, badgers, deer and countless rabbits. Kippford sea-front is a 10-minute stroll down the hill. A former fishing village with a history of ship-building, set on the Urr Estuary leading to the Solway Firth, it is now a popular yachting base. It is also an interesting 'no-through' road. While cars cannot venture past the village centre, there are 2 lovely paths: The Jubilee Path (Scottish National Trust-owned lands) is a gentle meander across the hill to our neighbouring village, Rockcliffe (1 mile), with its sandy, curved beach - perfect for litte ones. Or the coastal 'Rough Firth Road' is a pretty coastal path beside Kippford's shell & shingle beaches and many quirky findings (you have to come to find out what those are!). Backed by forest with walks and cycle trails; shingle and shell beaches along the shore, with views to the islands in the bay, Kippford is perfect base for walkers, rock-poolers, bucket-and-spaders, star-gazers, cyclists, water-sports enthusiasts or anyone who just wants to chill outside The Anchor Inn or The Mariner on a sunny day with a pint of local ale! Nearby towns are Dalbeattie (3 miles), Castle Douglas (the region's 'Food Town'; 20 mins); Kirkcudbright (famous for its pretty harbour and association with the Glasgow Boys' artists; 1/2 hr) and Wigtown (Scotland's Book Town; 1 hr). There are also several good places to eat nearby, farm shops (Galloway is well-known for its produce especially beef and we have an award-winning cheese-maker nearby), and fun days out for children/teens include Cream O Galloway, The Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory, Mabie Farm Park, Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken (all sorts of water-sports, rock-climbing etc.), Laggan Outdoor Centre
Kippford is such a unique village. One thing that makes it special is that cars are discouraged beyond the village centre but walkers are encouraged along 2 paths which afford fantastic views. One along the coast past cockle shell beaches. The other over the hill and land owned by the Scottish National Trust to Rockcliffe, the next village. It has a pretty sandy bay and an Iron Age Hill Fort hillock on the way. With views to islands in the bay, the Dalbeattie Forest & the Muckle Hill (Moyle Hill) backing the Jubilee Path there are an abundance of walks. And 2 good pubs serving food & real ale in Kippford with views to the yachts.
  • We had a wonderful time in this lovely cabin. It is spacious and very nicely decorated. The area was terrific with lots to see and do. We'll be back.

  • The lodge was perfect for two small children with parents and two other adults plus dog. Plenty of space and everything you need. Beautiful coastline and beaches near by. We had a great time, thank you Lynn.

  • The lodge was perfect for us. It was warm and cosy and was exactly what we were looking for. The directions Lynn provided us with were spot on and had no trouble finding the place. In addition, Lynn was excellent at providing suggestions for local walks to do (loved the walk to Rockcliffe, taking in Rough Island and the Mote of Mark), where to hire bikes from (although we decided not to do so in the end) and places to eat (had a very nice fish and chips in the Anchor). Overall, we had a lovely relaxing weekend in a fantastic lodge and our host Lynn could not have been more accommodating. I would definitely recommend it to a friend (in fact have already done so) and may even return some day.

  • An easy walk to the beach and an easy ride over to the Dalbeattie Forest MTB trails. Lovely cabin which is well cared for.

    Michael2017-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Spent 6 nights at the lodge with our friends and 4 young children. Lovely place and perfect location. Close to beaches - we loved sandy hills and rockcliffe! Lovely little cafe called brambles close by which we would highly recommend! Host was fantastic - great communication! The children loved seeing the rabbits every morning out of their window. Lodge has everything you need. Would come back to the area and lodge. Who needs to go abroad when you have sandy hills! Sand is amazing! Many thanks for letting us stay at your lodge.

    Emma2015-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time here :) and we would definitely come back! The lodge is fantastic and there is so much to do in the area! We had a great week - we enjoyed Sandy Hills beach and Rockcliffe beach which are a short drive away. Both are beautiful. We also enjoyed a long walk from Rockcliffe to Sandy Hills on the coastal path. Approx 4/5 miles but we walked at least 6 miles! (According to my Fitbit and my legs!!) With a 3 and 5 year old. We managed it but it did take 3 hours! Very beautiful. Bonus of starting at Rockcliffe meant at Sandy Hills we had the shop with ice cream, chocolate and crisps!! We enjoyed a walk in the woods, a lovely playpark and fish and chips in Kirkcudbright, the playpark in Daltbeattie, cream o Galloway near castle Douglas (also a Tesco, playpark and a few nice coffee shops) dalscone farm park (£30 for 2 adults and 2 kids) and Dino park (£24 for 2 adults and 2 kids) which are both Dumfries area. are fab with brilliant soft plays and outdoor areas. Highly recommend! (There is also Mabie farm park, the chocolate factory and lots more woods, walks, beaches close by that didn't need have time to visit!)

A much-loved family holiday house with a relaxed atmosphere and vintage Seventies decor on the beautiful and unspoilt Solway coast. It's not 5* luxury and the decor in some of the bedrooms is in need of updating, but there is lots of space, a big (but unfenced) garden and views of Screel and the Urr estuary from the terrace. Brilliant for family get-togethers or groups of friends - and well-behaved dogs welcome too. Golf, 7Stanes cycling, sailing and coastal walks all nearby.
Unfortunately, due to the number of steps, the house isn't suitable for people with limited mobility. The kitchen has all the equipment you need to feed big groups, and the table extends so that you can seat 12 easily, but you can be just as cosy with smaller groups if you shut off the bedrooms downstairs.
Kippford is a popular sailing village with two pubs and a great little Par 3 golf course. The Dalbeattie 7Stanes mountain biking trail is nearby, as are plenty of other golf courses, and there are lots of wonderful coastal walks from the door. The beach at Rockcliffe is great for small children, and there is plenty to appeal to art and history lovers in the area too.
  • BV is in a stunning location, scenic and a short walk to the village. The Anchor pub on the main street has great real ale, pub food and atmosphere. The walks in the woods were fantastic for our dogs and the whole family. The fire was a lovely warm centre for family games in the living room. Warm and cosy bedrooms too! I would recommend for large family get togethers. Thank you Pamela for great communication, directions and information .

  • Bells View is the best holiday home we've ever stayed in. Our host was incredibly helpful and made sure our stay was comfortable and cosy, she even put up a Christmas tree and fairy lights as we were staying over Christmas and Boxing Day. The house is enormous and easily accommodated our group of 8. The interior design is completely unique and fabulous! It really felt like a home from home and we were sad to leave on the last day. This is the perfect party house for a small group looking for something a bit different! The kitchen is incredibly well equipped with kitchen utensils and appliances - we really couldn't have asked for more. We highly recommend BV and hope to visit again soon. 5 stars aren't enough!

Daisy is our classic VW camper, the perfect way to explore Dumfries and Galloway, or further afield in Scotland or northern England. She has a classic retro feel, but is bright and clean, with a few modern conveniences, like a 12/240v fridge, radio/cd with bluetooth & aux input, USB & sat-nav charging sockets, mains hook-up, and 12v leisure battery system. Daisy will take up to 4 people, but we would advise a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children. Bed linen and towels available to hire.

  • Nice cottage where we stayed with 4 adults and 2 kids in the thre bedrooms. Good communication with Ronnie. It was great that the cottage was available prior to stated check in and that we could book it from a Thursday onwards. Three bedrooms with comfortable beds. Kitchen with everything we needed. Dining area in kitchen is small but the kitchen is nicely renovated as is the bathroom. The living rooom has an open fire place and has a bit of a smokey smell. Nice dining area outside in the little garden. WIFI worked fine once we switched it off for a minute on the power socket. The water is visible from a little elevated platform in the garden. Kippford is a lovely small fishing village. Lovely walk to Rockcliffe, which has a nice beach. Kirkcudbright is a beautiful village with numerous galleries and lovely cafes and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay even with the mixed bag of weather. We would recommend the cottage!

  • We had a lovely holiday at Hazlemount Cottage in Kippford. It is in a beautiful peaceful location with fantastic gardens and views. It's perfect for exploring the surrounding countryside and also for just staying in the local area. The cottage was clean and well equipped and the information on how to work everything was very clear and easy to find. Ronnie was very helpful both before our stay and during it with advice and recommendations on the local area. We also made use of Ronnie's extensive DVD collection! We would definitely recommend the cottage for a family holiday.

  • A fantastically cosy comfortable cottage. Amazing views - and gorgeous garden. A fantastic family holiday - even the two teenagers enjoyed it! And our dog loved it - lots of walks in the woods - we will be back!

  • Five us (plus our dog) enjoyed a lovely 3-day break at Hazelmount. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable, warm and cosy stay. The garden was a delight - we just wish we could have stayed longer and spent more time on the viewing balcony with gorgeous views over the estuary. Kippford is a beautiful village and the surrounding coastline is great fun to explore. Plenty of good local eateries too! Would love to return...

  • With my wife's father being from CD we have been regular visitors to the town all our lives and since having children of our own we have struggled to find a holiday home central in the town to enjoy short breaks. Our struggle is finally over thanks to this simply stunning house! The location cannot be beaten as it is so central to all the shops, pubs and restaurants. The quality of the furnishings and finishes throughout the house is very high-end and the décor and attention to detail outstanding. This house is a real gem and we cannot wait to spend many more holidays in it. Gill and her mother were superb and welcoming hosts and communication from booking to departure was excellent.

The description was accurate. Everything was well explained to us as we arrived and a few walks suggested which were great after spending time driving.

  • A wonderful bed and breakfast find in the delightful town of Castle Douglas. This impressive historic family house now being the shared home of Melissa and family. We were grateful for the extra touches both prior to arrival, as Melissa checked on our arrival time to align with her own movements, and also on the bedroom 'tea tray' with small french beers (a welcome touch after an 8 hour car journey from the home counties as well as a lovely tea set including fresh milk I might add! Our early start on departure necessitated a continental style brakefast but Melissa was up with us to ensure a hearty porridge was available. We could have stayed for much longer and would be more than happy to return if the nearby Southern Upkand Hills need exploring once again.

    Simon2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • We got the sumptuous double room with a splendid rug, suggestive paintings, and lovely view of field, woods, and mountains. The bathroom was enormous. Melissa was in touch throughout and guided us up to the property, which is a Georgian pile -- gorgeous. She booked our table at Nico's, the best Greek restaurant outside of London, and provided a good breakfast. A very pleasant stay!

  • Perfect ! A beautiful historic house. Immaculately clean and very comfortable with old world charm. Beautiful views from the breakfast room out to the countryside. Melissa was a great host and helped with recommendations on things to see in the area. I thoroughly recommend this place for your stay .

  • I've just checked out of the fox flat after 3 nights stay for my brothers wedding. It's such a beautiful flat with everything you could wish for. I went up with my children and they didn't go bored when we was at the flat with the selection of board games, play station 2, dvds and books to choose from. I wish the weather was nice as I didn't have chance to go in the garden. The garden is beautiful with fairy lights wrapped around the deck you could definitely just relax. We had a little trouble working the shower the first night but soon realised how to work the heating for it and the log fire, what more could I say it's beautiful. We will be definitely coming again.

    Tanya2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a good time in Castle Douglas and The Fox Flat was a significant part of that. Pros: The flat is very well located, on the busy main street of CD, nicely designed and pretty well arranged for hosting guests. 2 of the 3 bedrooms are pretty small, but well arranged and equipped. The third bedroom is actually a family room and offers minimal privacy, as it is openly connected to the kitchen. The flat is beautifully designed, with an apparent fetish for fox and some functionality glitches such as the over-crowded living room. The flat has a beautiful, well groomed, harden with a nice seating deck. Great for sunny days!!! Cons: Second floor location with a very steep staircase. We did not notice any indication to that fact upon booking and had this as the biggest obstacle of our stay, as we had two partially disabled, senior citizens with us. We have experienced quite a few technical malfunctions over our stay. Burnt lightbulbs, stuck doors and the absence of a spare key, caused a certain amount of hassle and dismay. Although the owner was very responsive and actively tried to help, I do recommend demanding that she inspects the place before you arrive and that you make sure to get a proper compensation for such glitches, should they occur. Please note that you will have to make your own beds and strip them from beddings upon leaving. It's ok, but jas to be taken into consideration if you have any physical disability or arrive very tiered. All in all-the Fox flat is a nice place, but not for everyone.

  • Beautiful flat with tonnes of space. We had an 8 month old baby who slept in the second bedroom. Lounge/Dining room was very comfortable with a log fire. Kitchen had a second lounge room joined to it with a sofa and TV and all the utensils/cooking equipment needed. Wifi was speedy. Garden was a massive bonus and had a great decking area where we sat and had wine and dinner in the sun. Garden well kept with luscious grass. Lots of food places on the doorstep and cafes, shops etc. Supermarkets 1 min walk. Definitely will be coming back here as our base now our parents have moved to Scotland. Amazing value for what you get and location to expore the stunning wilderness around. Book it!

    Jake2016-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely comfortable spacious flat in good location for local shops cafes etc. We were in the area for a wedding so didn't get to spend as much time in fox flat as we'd have liked but would definitely stay again if visiting the area.

  • I booked Estelles place for my colleagues who were working in the area. It was in a great location, handy to their place of work, and Estelle was a great host. The flat is beautifully decorated and very cosy. Thanks again for having us.

  • My girlfriend and myself had a really pleasant and relaxing stay in Carole's lodge. Perfectly located on the edge of the Galloway national park and a great base to explore the region from. The lodge is extremely well equipped and Carole had gone the extra mile with some nice touches such as stocking the fridge with milk and a selection of Scottish food stuffs as well as having the log burner laid and ready to go for when we arrived. (Very much appreciated seeing as it was well below zero when we got there!) Cold, crisp and clear nights meant we were treated to Galloway's show piece; the incredible night sky. I would not hesitate to recommend Carole's lodge to others and we might just be back in the future. Many thanks Carole!

  • Lovely little place, cosy, warm and welcoming! We enjoyed our mini break and staying here made is even better.

  • We had a lovely holiday in the lodge at Kippford. Beautiful setting, lovely views, and very quiet. The lodge was clean and well equipped and had everything that we needed and the information on how to work the washing machine, light the wood burning stove, etc. was very clear and easy to find. Lots of information on the local area was provided which was really useful. We would thoroughly recommend the lodge for a family holiday.

    Bridget2014-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • after a drive from glasgow in a raging blizzard on the "other" side of the road, my arrival at kippford could not have been better. the fire was ready to light, the teapot and biscuits were laid out. the cottage was warm, the setting beautiful. it was exactly what i wanted in every way. then i had a call from carole making sure i had arrived safely. the weather started improving slowly, but i had my granddaughter by saturday, and we did some great road trips. favorites were rosslyn chapel and drive back by way of st. marys loch, isle of whithorn, the anchor pub in kippford, the hikes to rock cliff and the point....the acres of bluebells and daffodils and rock walled sheep. i loved being there. christine.

    christine2016-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • A very cosy place to stay, the photos don't quite do it justice. I stayed with a friend for a couple of nights, just what we needed for an escape from the city. The weather was great on our only full day, so we went for a long walk up past Dalbeattie then back via the forest, ending up around Sandyhill. Great little pub (The Anchor) was an ideal place in Kippford to rest our legs afterwards, the ale went down very well! Then 10 minutes walk in the dark (more interesting without a torch!) back to the lodge for whisky by the log fire. Would recommend for couples looking for a romantic retreat!

    David2015-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge is exactly what you'd want for a get-away-from-it-all short break; secluded without being isolated, quiet but not soundless and set in the most picture perfect scenery! Our only concern ahead of the trip was how close the lodge might be to its neighbours but all are well screened by trees and the light coloured building you can just see in the image is actually part of the lodge, although it is not in use. Well equipped, comfortable and big enough to still be called cosy, the lodge has everything you need for an easy stay. Welcome tray was very welcome indeed and simple touches such as the fire in the (excellent) wood burning stove being set for your first night make all the difference. Carole has provided loads of information about local attractions and services so the answers to most questions are easy to find. Local services are close enough but a car is essential. Best of these is the 24 hour 'Log Shed' complete with honesty box - brilliant! We had a fantastic time and Carole did everything she could to make our stay perfect. I even suspect she arranged for the Red Squirrel to stop off on the feeder outside the lodge on our first morning! Amazing! I've already recommended the lodge to friends and will happily do so again.

    Alex2014-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great . Carole clearly takes pride in her home, decorated amazingly and also very clean . Nice fresh sheets and clean bathroom etc . There was also a nice welcome gift for us and clear communication upfront. I will be back for sure .

  • Everything was perfect! The welcome and beauty and comfort of the lodge were truly amazing. Every detail was lovingly cared for. Carole is a fantastic host. The lodge was super clean, carefully furnished - down to high quality bed linens - which matters to me!! So totally well done. Thank you Carole. You're my kind of person.

  • Jenny communicated well with us and was at the house to meet us and make us welcome. Jenny is a lovely lady and had fresh milk, cakes and biscuits tea coffee etc left for us. Jenny made it clear all of her facilities were there for us to use. Jenny house is a very small walk to Castle Douglas. We used Jenny house as a base to go in and out of Kirkcudbright as we were there for the Tattoo. We will be using Jenny place again. Jenny is a great host you really can just turn up with change of clothes and get on. Thank you Jenny for the use of your place

The house is clean and bright with everything you need from a wonderful selection of DVDs to a well equipped kitchen. There is an uninterrupted view from the front of the house and a wee place to sit in the sun. There is lots to do around the area and we especially enjoyed the visit to the Red Kite feeding station.

  • The equipment, beds and furniture at Jenny's are perfect and she is the most welcoming and kindest person you'll ever meet, it really was like staying with a good friend and we shan't forget our lovely weekend. Castle Douglas is great and there is so much to see and do you're spoilt for choice. The absolute highlight for us was the walk through Bar Hill bluebell woods at Kirkcudbright, carpets of exquisite flowers.... hurry, they won't be there for very long!

    Sue2017-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 nights at Jenny's property this weekend and absolutely loved it ! While we didn't get to meet Jenny this time, her communication and contact with us was brilliant. She is also a very thoughtful host as she had kept cake, chocolates, juice, butter etc for us - which was a very welcome touch. The bathroom was stocked with all toiletries that one could need and the property was spotless clean. The house is quite close to the high street and you could walk to it , so it's quite conveniently located if you are interested in some shopping . It's also very near Threave Castle and Threave Gardens which are fab tourist attractions and historical in importance. Good takeaways nearby to order food from or you can cook at the property as well. The view from the living room is beautiful and bucolic and if you're lucky to get clear evenings you can witness some stunning sunsets . Reserved parking is a big plus and we are earmarking this property to return to in the future !

  • Raewyn's accommodation is a lovely house to stay in. It's in the centre of Castle Douglas where there's an excellent range of types of shops, cafes and restaurants. It's a good base for visiting sites in the area.

We had a fab time staying at the lodge for new year. Warm, cosy and inviting with everything we needed. Just a short walk from the beach and not far from the shop for the basics.
